If you don't need all the bells and whistles that come with the OneTouch III Turbo Edition, the basic OneTouch III hard drive is a promising choice. The functional design, the software bundle, and the 7,200rpm hard drive make for a good basic external drive.

Review: The OneTouch III family includes single drive members with the following interfaces: USB 2.0; FireWire 400/USB 2.0; and FireWire 800/FireWire 400/USB 2.0. Capacities range from 100GB to 500GB. The 100GB and 200GB versions have an 8MB cache, while the 300GB, 400GB, and 500GB versions boast a 16MB cache. For backup, the USB-only version offers Maxtor's Backup software and the rest offer the EMC Dantz Retrospect HD software. "Not what it purports to be" By consumer_ron

Pros Easy setup with USB. Didn't try Firewire due to reported problems.

Cons Backup with XP Pro multiple users seems to require logging in under each user to back up each users files even when logged on as administrator.

Summary I had expected this unit to backup my entire hard drive at the push of a button. It does not. Using XP Pro with multiple users I had to log on as the administrator, change all users to administrator to set the backup for each, and reset all users to ... Expand full review
