"Fat32 limitations, MEMEO Autoback Up"
Pros: Easy to install. Nice shareware backup software. Tried Memeo that came with it and loved it. Easy to set-up and copies automatically so I don't have to worry about it. Also really like how it turns off automatically when PC is turned off.
Cons: FAT32 limits the file size being copied to the drive. For example, I kept on getting an error backing up a home video file that was over 4GB. Got destination full errors. Easy to fix. I just reformatted the drive to NTFS and it works great now!
Summary: Great drive for backups. If you are backing up your videos and have file copy errors, try reformatting to NTFS. Of course, you lose the benefits of FAT32 per a previous review that says is great for gaming. But if you're not using for that purpose, change to NTFS and you will be all set.

You do NOT need to reformat the drive. You can convert it to NTFS without loosing any data, and in a very short period of time. (I had 800 gigs on mine when I converted it.)
Follow these steps.
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
At the command prompt, type the following, where drive letter is the drive that you want to convert:
convert drive letter: /fs:ntfs
For example, type the following command to convert drive E to NTFS:
convert e: /fs:ntfs
When you receive the following message at the command prompt, type the volume label of the drive that you are converting, and then press ENTER:
The type of the file system is FAT.
Enter the current volume label for drive drive letter
When the conversion to NTFS is complete, you receive the following message at the command prompt:
Conversion complete
Quit the command prompt.
Hope this helps. -
Nice review, cabbsman. : ) I don't know if you realized this, but most external hard drives are formatted as FAT32. This is to make the drives compatible with multiple systems; (Mac, for instance, can read NTFS but cannot write to it without using tools). So the drive being in FAT32 is not a con, it's simply standard. :)
Thank you for your feedback about Memeo. I usually ditch the additional software that comes with my drives, but I'm going to look into this one. : )
