Seagate Expansion External Hard Drive (2TB)

CNET Editors' Take

Need to store a couple thousand hours of digital video? The world's largest MP3 collection? Whatever the case, you'll be hard-pressed to fill this mammoth drive.

It's hard to believe, but this 2TB external hard drive is selling for just $119.99.

Do you need extra storage space?  Well, you've come to the right Cheapskate.

At Newegg, you can get a Seagate Expansion 2TB external hard drive for $119.99 with free shipping--tax is extra where applicable--by using coupon code EMCYSZW58.  To use the coupon, you must subscribe to get the free Newegg newsletter.

I'll be honest: I hesitated choosing this deal today because I don't know a single person who needs 2TB of storage space. I certainly don't. The 750GB drive in my desktop is about 40 percent empty and has been that way for years.

That said, this is by far the lowest price I've seen on a 2TB external drive, and you know I'm all about finding the lowest prices on gear.

If you shoot a lot of HD video, record a lot of HDTV, pirate a lot of movies, or what have you, there's nothing like having ample space to store your collection. (By the way, if you pirate a lot of movies, or any movies, shame on you!)

As you might expect, the aptly named Expansion is a no-frills drive. It's your basic black monolith with a USB 2.0 interface, built-in power management features, and, well, that's about it.

I've searched high and low and can't find any information about the drive's speed. If it's a 5,400rpm drive, as I assume it is, don't expect blazing performance. However, you can expect to get a better-than-average warranty: two years.

Bonus deal: Man, I thought the Sony Reader Pocket Edition was a good deal at $139.95. But today only, Woot.com has it (refurbished) for just $109.95, plus $5 for shipping. It has already sold out of the black and red models, so only silver is left. You had better hurry!
