Pros The cheapest price listed on this site is $84.99. I got mine @ Wal Mart for $69! True plug & play. Computer recognized the drive instantly, installed it, and it was ready to use! No software to install! Looks sharp, too. It matches my notebook.
Cons Power. This drive needs to be plugged in to work. If you need a portable drive get one that's USB powered. My 500GB drive was $10 less than a 320GB portable USB powered drive. So weigh the options 1st. Don't think USB powered drives come in 500 + GB
Summary Even though the name says External Desktop Drive, I use it with my Notebook. I haven't had it long enough to say anything about reliability or longevity. Plug & Play works correctly, have tried it on Vista and XP. No problems installing drivers or using the drive whatsoever. No software to install, which is really cool for those who aren't that tech savvy. For not being a "portable" external drive it is fairly small, it and the A/C adapter fit in my laptop case for when I do need to bring it somewhere. It also looks sharp. Think it comes in 2 colors. The shiny black looks really cool, plus matches my notebook! Again, SEAGATE 500GB EXTERNAL DESKTOP DRIVE IS $69.99 @ WAL MART! Didn't check eBay prices. Also has 2 year warranty. User friendly, wallet friendly, seems like a great buy! I've never dealt with SeaGate tech support so I can't say anything about their tech support or warranty services, but I don't anticipate problems from it. I'm not a heavy external drive user.
Pros Basically as fast as internal HDD, as that's what it is, in an external drive enclosure with a really quiet cooling fan. circa 60 MB's sec large files and 25 MB's sec small files, like Mp3's!
Cons None! It does everything I needed 'n more.
Summary Just want to buy the 3TB model now. I love it that much.
