  • "bad software kills this product"
    on by elkcamp

    Pros easy to use

    Cons Bad software

Summary Seagate has decided to limit what files and file types the user can backup from their system using the pre-installed softare that comes on this drive. After having numerous conversations with Seagate Tech Support, they CONFIRM that the software will not allow the user to backup a whole host of file types to include system files. When I purchased this product I wanted an external drive to which I could backup whatever files I like from my own system. Seagate has arbitrarily decided that I should not be allowd to have the capability if I want to use their software. Thus I am forced to either return the drive and find a non Seagate or Maxtor product or remove all of their software and install some third party software that basically returns the "choice" to me the user.

  • "Poor service, complicated warranty and return"
    on by lambdadad

    Pros Easy Installation

Cons Worked less than a week, now I have to pay to get my data recovered.

Summary I will never buy another Seagate or Maxtor product. A week after I purchased it my computer started crashing and programs shut down. When I called support somewhere in Asia, they told me I had a bad drive and they would replace it, however, I would have to pay (one of their partners) to have my data recovered. If I'm going to have to pay more, I will get my data back and give my business to another company. Wouldn't you?

  • "Total crap, don't wast your money"

Pros None that I have found

Cons Dies with no warning signs. Is not detected as drive. USB Code 43 errors

Summary Original drive worked 6 months then died, no data could be retrieved. Seagate charges from $700 to $2500 for data retrieval. Could never start my machine with it plugged in, even after a Bios change.

I paid 19.99 to have my drive priority shipped and replaced while under warranty. New drive does not function and when I look at the bottom for serial numbers is see a sticker "Seagate Certified Repair", they sent me a reconditioned drive as a warranty replacement!

Cannot believe the difficulties I have had with this drive. I bought because I thought I was buying name brand quality. I'm out 170.00 plus 19.99 for a defective replacement.

Be very wary of Seagate External Drives. Google and see how many people have had problems. Don't rust this as storage like I did. Lost gigs of irreplaceable business files.

  • "pure crap! never again"
    on by ox-ina-box

    Pros none at all

Cons mass deletion of stored files, corruption of files and all round just not happy with this expensive waste of money

Summary I did not like losing all of the files that i had saved on this hard drive, months worth of hard work gone in an instant.

  • "Great price for large capacity"
    on by ictorres07-2218913432419121052

    Pros Slim design, quick transfers

Cons Seagate software seems to offer incomplete back up options

Summary I am always weary of storage products, so my opinion is on a day by day basis. So far so good. I use my Seagate for a weekly back up, but I do not use the free Seagate back up software because it does not offer complete options. I opted for Syncback back up software and it's been ok so far. I got this on sale at a large retailer for around $80, so it was a no brainer.
