"Usable for what it was deigned for, but not reliable"2.0 starson by JediSchool
Pros: Large size, easy-to-use
Cons: Runs hot, doesn't comply to standards, very delicate, poorly-written or nonexistent documentation
Summary: After less than 6 months of ownership, this drive stopped working. The drive held backups and so I've lost quite a lot of data (1TB of irreplaceable research data, photos and video of my children, and assorted parts of my life's work which I produced and had no other backup of). Data recovery services can get back some of the data, but they don't consider it their job to make sure that it's in the format it's supposed to be... I would essentially get back a very large text file if I spent the $10,000 it would take to recover 1TB of data.
And today, just about an hour ago, it stopped working because my infant son (14 months old) yanked the cord and the drive toppled over on the desk. It didn't fall to the floor, nor even off of a book. It didn't hit that hard. It just stopped working. I've had fine crystal that was more resilient.
Although I have a replacement plan for the hardware, I need something more reliable. I will not be buying a replacement; I will be getting another external product from a different manufacturer.
