"Unreliable and hard to use warranty."
on by syblPros It's portable. It's pretty fast when it works. It's easy to use.
It's shiny. That's all I got...Cons Defective product. (Second consecutive for me that stopped working after about 6 months. My issues are echoed all over the net.)
Summary I was very happy with my 2 original Seagate external drives to perform after hours data backups. The first one flaked out after about 4 years of daily use which was an acceptable life for the price.
Next I bought the first little portable one I could find and it worked for about 6 months. I figured maybe it was my fault and that it was full, and I wanted something faster so I ordered this GoFlex after reading good reviews on the tech sites.
This thing was purchased in June. It started showing issues about 2 months ago, after 3 months of daily use. Now it is flat dead. Beeps when hooked up, computer only recognizes it part of the time, and when I got it to spin long enough to run SeaTools tests, it failed all miserably.
The worst part is how obviously intentionally difficult Seagate makes it for customers to take advantage of the warranty. The website support and warranty procedure is a carnival ride that takes hours of repetition and frustration. Only to end with everything but the address to mail the piece of garbage back to them. Then they ignore emails for the return address.
I'm done with this brand. -
"Quick Easy-to-Use Reliable External"
on by yes85rodPros Quick USB 3.0
Easy-to-Use
No software required
PC and MAC compatible
Usage Light with On/Off settingCons Shiny Case
Summary I bought this to back-up my laptop, store movies/music on, and transfer files to and from campus. It does what its suppose to. Plug it in and the PC automatically recognizes it. No special software installation required. Comes with a proper length USB 3.0 cord (1.5-2ft???). Has a light to show if it has power or is currently in use (writing).
I would rather it had a matte finish rather than the polished black plastic. It shows fingerprints and may show scratches. It is quiet and does not seem to get hot. I have used it for hours on end when I first got it (still do on occasion) and it never got warm enough to cause any concern.
It gets used daily for miscellaneous file transfers and is always kept in my school backpack where it does not get the best treatment. That said it seems to be a pretty sturdy device.
I would recommend this as an easy-to-use external that gets the job done and does what its suppose to do.
