"USB Port Hog" on by MillenniumHawk
Pros: Small, thin, and compact
Cons: My PC didn't recognise the drive when it got plugged in. Read the user manual and recommended that I plug in BOTH of the USP connectors to the PC. What? is this a joke? One device needs to take up 2 USB ports on a PC?
Summary: Went to their website and under the FAQ, it said the same thing that the manual said, which was to plug in both USB connectors. Even if this method worked, why does a portable drive requrie 2 USB ports? The drive comes with the pin for AC Adaptor, but the AC Adaptor is not supplied with the drive, nor does it say what kind of AC Adaptor is required. Making more work for the users! In the end, I had to send it back to Simple Tech. Returning is also not easy. They make you work yet again! I had to get Return Merchandise Authorization. This is a crock! I don't mind going green, but that doesn't mean that I should settle for a product that requires more power source and the competitors' and deal with rude customer support jerks! Don't waste your money and don't get duped with going green. I don't like the product and I recommend others not to buy any products from Simple Tech that require the usage of 2 USB ports.

"Good Drive, on par with other devices I have used" on by dgrillo2
Pros: Eco-Friendly, Reasonably quick, 500GB is a good size for the average consumer
Cons: If you just disconnect the drive without safely removing it or shutting of a computer, the next time you plug it in, the computer will not recognize the device. However to fix this, disconnect the power to the device and then plug it back in again
Summary: There are a lot of negative reviews for this product. I feel that it needs something more positive. I have had this device for 2 years now and I use it everyday. It never overheats regardless of being on and running for several hours and it always works (minus the problem listed in the cons section of this review). I have used it for all sorts of operations; storing backups of files, movies, music, I have even ran several games off of it without any problem. This device has worked great for me and I would recommend it to others.

"A Worthless Product" on by NotSimple22
Pros: I can't say, because I can't get it to work at all.
Cons: PC won't read the drive. Impossible to get in touch with support for help.
Summary: Where do I start. Judging by another review on here, SimpleTech products are crap. I won't be buying anything else of theirs. Installation and supposed to be quick and easy, just plug in the USB, plug in the AC and viola! you're ready to go. But unfortuately it wasn't that easy.
My computer won't read the drive. I tried uninstalling and re-installing and then it showed up but when I rebotted my PC the next day, again the drive wasn't there according to my PC. Bundled software from "ArcSoft" which comes with the drive only confused matters.
I called ArcSoft support and they didn't know anything about the SimpleDrive. I called SimpleDrive's support and was on hold for 15 minutes and then got disconnected! I'm ready to take this piece of garbage back and demand a refund.
I bought it because it was on clearance, and apparently it was on clearance because nobody wants to buy these things! I'll stick with the more expensive, more reliable and reputable drives from now on. I make my living from my PC and reliable back-up is essential. -
"I feel wrong giving it a 3..." on by DHXK3G
Pros: Stores stuff like you'd expect, plenty of space for my needs. (500GB)
Cons: Would cause my PC to stall during a reboot. I was able to trouble-shoot by unplugging the USB from the PC during reboot, and plugging it back in when I saw my desktop.
Summary: With all the bad reviews here, I feel weird giving a 3. For the price, this hard drive was reasonable. It is quick, stores all of my documents and more, and takes up a fairly small footprint. (I used this to replace a failed Maxtor III - which WAS crap.)
My only gripe is having to unplug it from the PC when I rebooted. I haven't had to do it EVERY time, but when I notice the reboot not completing, it's most likely the (RE)drive. -
"a disappointment." on by wonderboltprdctns11
Pros: it worked for a while
Cons: it would constantly disconnect and reconnect itself from my computer when i wasn't doing anything to it and sometimes it wouldn't respond when i plugged it into my computer. Then it just didn't respond and i lost all my data that was rather vital.
Summary: unless you want your heart broken.. go for a Western Digital or Seagate..
