Pros Small and light
Good memory capacity
Cons There is a fault in one of the production lines!
It would not work properly.
Summary Basically I brought this hard drive to put all my vinyl collection and my life's selection of music and pictures of family and friends etc.. It worked to start with however did not last long, it started to stop working every now and then, cut a long story short the hard drive dies before I could transfer my stuff to my other hard drive and so I lost everything I still have the hard drive (as I want so bad what it holds inside) light comes on but nothings working. Gutted (wipes eye).

Pros Lots of room
Cons Not fast in loading
Summary I have had it for about 2 years, has never failed me. Until now. Did a bunch of upgrades to programs, and now Windows says it does not recognize the disk. Never seen it coming and I have alot of family photos stored on it. Will probably try another product.

Pros fast backup
Cons no technical help
Summary This is our second Firelite. I am a teacher and I use it to take stuff back and forth from my school computer. The first Firelite lasted less than a year and then just conked out for no apparent reason. I religiously back up stuff, so everything on it was both on my home and school computers. We got another Firelite -- I liked it because it was really smallish and because I have way too much data to cart around than will fit on a jump drive. This one, for some reason, will only let me open my docs "read only" when I'm at school (I don't have this problem at home). It hasn't been a MAJOR problem because I do most of my work at home, but when I want to do some corrections etc. at school, I have to do a work-around which IS a pain in the rear. I've don't everything I can think of to fix the problem, I've had a couple of geeks try to figure it out. Nothing. Sent emails, tried to call FireLite, no one seems to be at home. So, I'm calling it quits and getting another portable drive this weekend -- it's just about time for this one to conk out anyway...
Pros small and quiet
Cons failed without any warning in just 3 months
Summary Failed in 3 months. I would not buy this drive again. Customer service is horrible. If you are thinking of a portable drive look elsewhere for something more reliable.
Pros Light, robust, carrying case, firewire, needs no external power source
Cons 4200rpm, slightly expensive.
Summary I purchased two 40GB drives in 2002. Both have been roughly treated, and used to store, transfer, backup on a steady basis since purchased. I have dropped mine several times, and the thing is bulletproofed (don't reccomend dropping it all the same). My business partner also has bounced his on occasion and they just keep on going. I've never had a power problem and NEVER had to use an external power adapter. Plugging into the firewire on a multitute of Macs has never failed to spin up the drive. I highly reccomend this drive to anyone one. far superior to the LaCie Porche drive which has a tendancy to overheat.
