Pros Does it matter when its going to fail in 2 months?
Cons Completely unreliable and WILL FAIL very soon.
Summary I bought the 2 TB (high end) version and it failed within 6 months of use. By use, I mean really delicate use, there was utmost care taken to make sure I don't accidentally damage the device. So I can sign with my blood that this device fails just with normal usage.
I got the first one returned and got a replacement from WD. This drive again failed within 1 month of usage. I might have used it only 5 times and it fails miserably!
Don't ever ever buy WD if you want to protect your data. This product is total rubbish and it is a total rip off.
Pros Light weight, very portable, need no external power.
Cons I can't think of any.
Summary I don't understand what all the fuss is about. I have the 2TB/USB3 black one for about 1 year (maybe a little more) and haven't had any problem at all with it. And I would say I use it quite heavily. It has my massive movie collection on it, I travel with it, and at home I leave it plugged in to my router so that my family and I can watch movies that are on the drive from anywhere in the house. I think it's an EXCELLENT device!
Pros I haven't been able to think of any.
Cons Crashes, no one can retrieve your data after a crash.
Summary Complete waste of money. And no apology or help from Western Digital.
Pros Compact, portable
Cons Unreliable, crashes
Summary Used this on a new 2012 MacBook Pro with USB 3.0 (after reformatting using Apple's Disk Utility on OS X Lion) and tried to copy/paste two folders containing 1.2TB worth of backup data. After a few hours the drive made it about a third of the way through and then crashed, freezing the copy operation, the drive itself spinning, clicking, and clunking repeatedly.
The dead drive would not eject properly, so I had to manually disconnect it and reboot the system. After the reboot, attempting to connect the drive resulted in the same cycle of spinning/clicking/clunking with no response from the drive.
Returned the drive a day after buying it, and will not make the mistake of trusting Western Digital again.
