Pros The only thing useful about this HD is that it made a GREAT doorstop!
Cons Hmmm....where to start??? The fact it only works for nearly 2 months before it starts running slow and eventually becoming unreadable. Keep in mind it never moved from my desktop so it was VERY little room for any physical damage to be done to it.
Summary Overall, this is by far the absolute WORST product line Western Digital has released. I thought I was going to be able to utilize this HD for not only storage but dependability and sufficiency. Boy was I wrong! I initially bought the 1TB HD of this edition and after only 5 months of having it, it crashed! I tried EVERYTHING in my power to have it restored. First, I tried to verifying it and repairing it on my Mac. That didn't work. Then I wasted my money by taking it to a certified PC Repair business for data recovery. They couldn't retrieve anything! I lost ALL of the files I backed up from my Mac AND PC! It was a complete loss! By the time all of this had been done, my warranty expired. I took it upon myself to call Western Digital's Tech Support Division to see what they could do because they were FULLY aware of the problems these HDs were causing. They advise me to pack it up in the original packaging and mail it back and they would replace it. I couldn't even zero-out those "hidden" files that could possibly be accessed if the "right" person were to get a hold of it. Nearly a week after sending it off, I received another HD. It was a 2TB. I took it as them having sympathy for me losing 1TB of info. Well, needless to say, I had the 2TB all of a month and the SAME EXACT PROBLEMS persisted! Western Digital will NEVER get my business again for causing such hardship after I took another chance on them. Fool me once....shame on you. Fool me twice....shame on you AND me....again!!!
Pros nothing good!
Cons I have been transfering ALL of my music, programs, business files, movies, EVERYTHING to this new external hard drive over the last month. It was purchased 1 month ago from Best Buy online. Everything was working fine until today, ironically 1 day past my
Summary Service with WD is pathetic! WD products are garbage!
Pros -easy to install and use
-common USB mini cable
-quiet when in use
Cons -no Kensington lock
-require external power supply
Summary Overall, it's a good external hard drive if you need the extra space. As a bonus, it provides power saving technology when your computer shuts down. However, I did notice the lack of Kensington lock and the somewhat bulky (but slim compared to other) power supply that would be nice to have.
Pros Inexpensive ($140). Fast enough (1B transfer/minute). Silent. Small (4.5x7.1.25"). Runs cool. Turns itself off when disconnected from computer. No frilly software to get in the way. Reasonably small transformer plug brick (1.5" wide).
Cons No physical on/off switch (but turns itself off when disconnected from computer).
Summary Reviews on other sites critical of things I had no problems with. Perhaps I got a newer model (if so, maybe WD paid attention to criticisms), but I have no complaints so far. USB cord is 4' long - enough to locate the HD on my desktop (since it's small & quiet). On/off light is on the " back" of the unit, next to the power & USB outlets - makes sense, since there's nothing on the "front" of the unit to look at anyway. No feet to suggest vertical operation (don't know if it will), but this is okay - I put my external DVD burners on top of it.
