"WOW what else can I say." on by manic_enigma
Pros: Fast transfer, easy setup, I am using it to backup a network.
Cons: instructions not very clear I have not found the backup software yet, but I just dragged and dropped for now.
Summary: Bottom line is in this time of budgeting using something like this for backup solution for our work network with either their software or third party is an awesome dollar savings and your boss will love you. Get 2 of these and week1/week2 them for cycle. Heck of alot cheaper than a tape drive or other solution.

"Quiet Low Cost drive w/ annoy-ware, crashes your system" on by Chris_34543
Pros: Low Cost. It was the cheapest in the store, discounted to USD 135. Now I know why. But it is quiet.
Cons: 1) Drive does not work as a plug and play USB drive, but requires installation of drivers, and messes with system CD drive settings. Causes repeated blue screens.
2) "Virtual CD Drive", source of all trouble CAN NOT BE UNINSTALLED. Formatting fails.Summary: I have never bought a more annoying disk drive.
It lacks plug and play functionality. It crashed my system repeatedly, first time I see blue screens on this computer. It comes with annoy-ware pre-installed, that can not be removed. I could not reformat it. Quick format yes, real format with change of sector allocation size, which some people might want with a 2TB drive: NO. Fails after EIGHT+ HOURS. Repeatedly. WD offers a way to disable, not remove, the CD functionality, nothing else.
It is possible to get the drive running, but it is an incredible nuisance and waste of time. Buy it only if the money you save is worth your time. -
"Problems with two machines" on by sellersi
Pros: Make sure you get a firewire or SATA if not too slow with USB. The software to manage them is OK but can be a bit confusing. I ended up formatting twice the wrong disk due to the poor user-freindliness of the layout
Cons: Both ended up with problems on the hard drive due to "thermal decompression" according to teh technicians that looked at the drives
Summary: Look, they get great reviews, but I have to say I am disappointed with the fact that I probably have to go out and by new external hard drives. This is the one piece of equipment you want to be relialel when you are backing up
