"Owning 10 of these drives can't be a bad thing!"
Pros: Price, and very low heat generated,
Cons: None that I can think of.
Summary: Over the last year, I've purchased ten of these units. Each and every one of them worked great out-of-the-box. I've so far used these drives on a Dell Optiplex with built-in USB 2.0, as well as a Dell Optiplex with an Adaptec USB 2.0 PCI card.
I don't understand why some people have problems with this drive. Some tips I'll offer: 1) Don't use USB hard drives off a USB hub. Hard drives need as much power and bandwidth off the USB bus as possible. 2) Format the drive to either FAT32 or NTFS before use. Even if the drive comes pre-formatted, format it anyway. 3) Make sure the drive is connected to a USB 2.0 port. Hard drives connected to a USB 1.x port simply doesn't work.
