"Firmware Update (version 1.07) available at Lexar's website" on by Astounded EEG
Pros: SD card slot; Firmware Update at Lexar.com; excellent set of features, including user selectable playback speed; inexpensive
Cons: Should be more stable; user interface relatively intuitive but not efficient; USB 1.1
Summary: First off, if your LDP-600 has firmware version 1.02 (or less than 1.07), download the new firmware upgrade from the LDP-600 product page at Lexar.com. It makes the SD slot much more useful and easier to use. It also allows the player to resume to the last song it was playing before it was shut off, including the precise time index. The firmware upgrade is a cinch to install and I highly recommend it if you have a lower version.
Without the firmware upgrade, the LDP-600 was a very sub-par mp3 player except for its valuable SD slot. The firmware upgrade is a major improvement, although the basic hardware design and persisting stability issues prevent the LDP-600 from being a stellar player. The player's exterior seems well-constructed and solid, but probably not very scratch resistant.
The FM features can be pretty finicky and the player is very sensitive to antenna placement. Headphones are the best antenna; the LDP-600 CANNOT effectively broadcast without either headphones or the provided antenna plugged in.
I consider the LDP-600 (with firmware 1.07 or higher) a solid 7 out of 10.
Lexar is supposed to release the LDP-800 sometime this summer. It's more expensive but has a better feature set (USB 2.0; can play OGG files; in-line audio recording), and includes an SD slot. It also has a different interface judging from the product photos. The Lexar LDP-200 has also been released but it is available at only a handful of websites right now; it is just a basic mp3 player but relies entirely on its SD slot for storage. -
"Very Poor, it stinketh" on by fastphoto
Pros: Sound was great.
Cons: Would not charge with SD Card installed. Took over 8 hours to charge. Would not play the files on the SD card made by the same company. It stopped playing after about 10 minutes.
Summary: It could just be a bad unit so I will try another one just for kicks. Maybe the next one will work.

"Worse Player ever made" on by mikecintel
Pros: Nothing good about this player
Cons: Rechargeable batter (Built in) always dieing every three months. Think about it after the warranty is over what are you going to do with it. You're stuck.
Summary: I have purchase this player in April because I went to a Wedding to California. It worked and when I bought in April and in May I came back and three (3) months later in July the battery is not holding so I had to call Lexar for a replacement and they did send me a replacement. I got the replacement in August and then guess what happen agian? YES the battery will not hold again. This is ridiculous. I mean the new one is a lemon and the EXCHANGE one is lemon too. Lexar makes cheap cheap cheap things except for memory. The shouldn't make MP3 Players anymore and just stick with making memory. Like the I-PODS and other manufactures who uses a built in rechargeable battery and when the battery dies your screwed. If they say pay $30-60 to replace a battery I rather buy a new MP3. If you get there extended service plans that is crazy you can even but a new one if you get there extended service. Think about about it when you're buying MP3 players. My suggestion is buy an MP3 player that uses batteries like for a walkman or rechargeable batteries for cameras because once they die you can get batteries at a CHEAPER price. I am going to REFUND my money for my player. Don't ever buy from LEXAR or any other compnies that uses built in rechargeable batteries.
