"Super picture, excellent value for secondary tv, 1080p!" on by annemullins
Pros: Price
Picture quality
Includes clear QAM tuner
Can hide unwatched channels
Gets program guides for the DIGITAL (not analog) channels
Includes composite & PC inputs
Remote has favorites and digital program info & channel guide
BeautifulCons: Picture gets substantially darker when viewed from even slightly below tv level
On screen menu is tiny- illegible from over ~5' @ 1080 res.
Poor remote design for use in dark bedroom (see below)
Stand does not pivot or tilt down, only tilts upSummary: This tv is the best price and value in the 22-26" size range in 1080p, and its a better size than 22". Highly recommended- you can't go wrong unless you watch tv from the floor (see below). I haven't attached it to a PC. I have a vcr and dvd home theatre attached, and it's in my bedroom. I get cable and have NO cable box attached, and it gets all the analog and CLEAR qam HD and digital channels flawlessly. I replaced a 20? analog crt tv with this- yipee!
Picture:
Chrystal clear and vibrant but picture does get substantially darker when viewed from even slightly below tv level- not good for bed to wall mount or higher dresser situation or floor watching. I had to set the brightness too light for same level viewing so it looks good from the bed. (My Samsung is not like this at all). It tilts up but NOT down so can't resolve that way.
Tips- watch non-hd channels in 4:3 and then they are super crisp too. I wish you could set a default picture size for HD (full) and for non-hd (4:3) so you don't have to keep switching picture size setting on the remote. (I believe all tvs are dumb like this?) I set the sharpness high, all other picture defaults are pretty good. Amazing picture!
Audio:
Default out of the box is with the surround sound off. I prefer this setting. I just configured the custom audio setting to be very high in bass and I think slightly higher than centre in treble. Some of the pre-defined audio settings are pretty good too, like music and movie.
If you switch to surround sound, be sure to turn the volume down to 1 dot before, because the surrond volume is tons of db higher! The surround adds too much echo (in my opinion) and although it provides a more separated stereo affect, ultimately is way too tinny even with the bass all the way up.
Remote:
Nice extra features for a small tv remote but no illumination, and all the buttons are the same shape and clumped together with the number pad..ugh. I had to memorize the pad and now count and feel the key placements to find a button- ridiculous really, but I've managed to get it, mostly.
VCR:
I found my vcr picture is far better when viewed through ch3 rather than changing the tv's input to aux. It's also easier that way. Just turn on the vcr and change the tv to ch3. Turn the vcr off and the tv channels all come back.
Menu Navigation:
They don't teach you how to do this in the manual so here goes- after you click menu button, it goes by default to the picture settings. To change to say, audio settings, use the left and right arrows to select a diffent menu from the turntable. Then use the up and down arrows to select a list item within the menu, then use enter and right/left again on the list items. To get out of the menu you must back out of the menu levels by repeatedly pushing the menu button. There is a timout setting for all menus in the options. After I figured out how to close the menu, I set that pretty long so it wouldn't close a menu on me too soon automatically. -

"Great entry level HDTV" on by kenry2011
Pros: -low price
-easy setup
-simple: no peripheral software to configure
-dynamic ratio much higher than counterparts
-speakers loud enough
-durable
-diversity of ports allow you to plug in a computer andCons: -no bass from speakers (but what do you expect from two small speakers)
-screen is not glossySummary: If you're on a budget but still want full 1080p HD quality for your video games or movies, this is the way to go.
The audio in and out ports make it easy to hook up a computer if you feel like using it as a monitor. I have had this tv for almost a year now, and took it to college.
When I hosted a party, someone tried to take it and dropped it on the floor before I stopped them, and the tv was fine (which is why i said durable under pros)
It is a large enough screen to enjoy any video game single player -
"Great as a TV monitor, awful as an actual television." on by rcc2k9
Pros: Excellent video and audio quality for a TV in its price range. Perfect size for a small bedroom - not too big, not too small.
Cons: Unresponsive and sometimes unstable while tuning channels. Remote control is slow and poorly designed.
Summary: If you are looking for a TV monitor for some other equipment (cable box, satellite converter, DVR or game console), you can't go wrong with AOC's L24H898. For the price you'll pay you will get rich wide-range sound with good bass and clear treble. Video looks great whether it's analog TV, digital SD or HD TV or HD video sources.
However, if you are looking for a television that can actually receive and tune TV channels, stay away from this model. It has a very slow tuner and sometimes you'll feel like your input on the remote is ignored though it's usually executed, just extremely delayed. Sometimes, especially when tuning between digital TV channels or going from a digital channel to an analog one, the L24H898 becomes unstable and gets stuck on the same channel or goes through a series of reboots where the unit seems to power off and back on many times on its own. (FYI: there are still low-power analog channels and analog cable TV in many markets.) Also, if a DTV channel goes off air, this television is quick to remove it from its memory but if said channel comes back on air, you'll have to run a rescan to get it back because there is no way to manually add digital channels by entering their OTA or QAM-cable real channel (RF) number. If you had taken the time to label all the channels, running a rescan will delete ALL of your labels, even for channels whose status did not change.
Finally, the remote control is awfully designed. If you are used to learning the remote's buttons by touch so you can control the TV without taking your eyes off the screen, be prepared to press the wrong buttons very frequently with this unit. This is not much of an issue if you are going to use a set top box with its own remote, but it becomes irritating for those who actually use the TV to receive television channels. -
"value priced replacement of a 20" analog tv" on by englishpb
Pros: set scanned all analog and digital antenna broadcasts in San Diego, Ca. Picture quality is good. Sound quality is average but acceptable. Weight is 16 lbs and setup was easy. My price from Walmart was $298 + tax + $16 recycle charge
Cons: Could not get my aftermarket 2nd RCA remote to work with AOC codes, had to use code for a Magnavox tv (062) to get RCA remote to work on this AOC 24".
Summary: I purchased this TV 2/11/09 and had it delivered to local walmart, delivery was very slow and did not arrive until 2/24/09.
