"Brighter and more vivid picture than Panasonic"
Pros: Cool styling, Three HD aspect ratios, Price reduced, Lower power consumption,
Cons: Have to select several buttons on the remote control to change inputs
Summary: I did a lot of research on CNET, Consumer Reports and in store comparison when looking at HD Plasma TV?s. I was going to buy the highly-rated Panasonic Consumer model. But, when I compared it to the Hitachi in the store, I wasn?t impressed. The Hitachi had a brighter and more vivid picture. Plus far better styling, power swivel and three HD aspect ratios (the Panasonic only had the 16-9 aspect ratio in HD-according to CNET review). I found that to be a huge minus, since not all HD programs are shown in the 16-9 ratio. In addition, the Hitachi has a power consumption of 236 watts, whereas the Panasonic has 400 watts (that can save quite a bit of money in years of operating costs). After 55-days of use, as of 11-1-05, I found the HD shows to be extremely vivid in color and brightness. Also, the black color look truly black. It also has a day/night feature that changes the video settings that you can customize. I find that useful for day/night viewing and to improve the quality of different movies (especially on SD) that often look better with different video settings without having to adjust the whole group of video settings.

I am considering this tv, but primarily watch SD programming. How is the quality for SD sources?
