"Like others, I'm a victim of a lousy product."

    by thelark31 on September 15, 2009

Pros: it was nice while it worked.

Cons: Like so many others I've read about online, I am now experiencing an increasing frequency of the screen going black with the sound still on. Just over one year in and it's more landfill poison. Disgust is the only feeling I can describe.

Summary: In an ironic parallel to our culture's growing theme of decline, here's a product with a legacy of failure for an insane number of customers. Thinking more about it, the word "disgust" doesn't even cover the distaste I have for this television.

Back when The Greatest Generation was building our nation into an incredible wealth of knowledge, resources, opportunity, and quality, a television would last for decades for the most part. Case in point - I still have a TV with a UHF dial that works well enough for an Atari 2600 when the mood strikes. Now I have a pending 37" expense in my living room just barely a year old. As the balance for the makers of this and countless other garbage products has eradicated quality and customer satisfaction in favor of maximizing every penny of profit, consumers have little choice other than purchasing sub-par merchandise made overseas, thus perpetuating the bleeding of our country's wealth into the Chinese pockets. We can't blame the Chinese - they're just using common sense. Shame on us for patronizing these companies (and forget about deaf ears missing this message; even the most acute hear it and carry on without a thought).

If you decide to buy this based on price, recognize that you're not paying $600 as advertised. You're either paying an additional $200 - $300 for the extended warranty or god knows how much more for a repair. It's comical that these extended warranties are needed on such a short-term basis, with the manufacturer and retailers expecting the unit to fail.

    CAVEAT EMPTOR!

Update: Not one day after submitting this review, this piece of junk now fails to put out any sound or display, even though the "on" LED is lit. It has also been several days since contacting Best Buy's customer service and I have received no response.
