"Outstanding sound, IPod Dock excellent, picture amazing"

5 stars  | on by TheTMinator

Pros

The sound is amazing and if you don't have a home entertainment speaker system or don't need it because it's a small room, the sound on here is amazing, especially when using the IPod dock. The picture is outstanding and was easy to fine tune.

Cons

The remote sucks. It doesn't have a back light and it isn't intuitive.
The owner's manual is marginal. The pictures within the manual are small and not very helpful, but to me that is a standard with any Asian electronic equipment I purchase.

This was my first HD, so keep that in mind, but I bought this TV about a month ago and I am very happy with it. I spent $633 bottom line and I couldn't be more happy. The picture is great (no surprise there) but the sound is amazing. I couldn't find a review for this product which I generally never purchase without, but the predecessor to this product had good reviews. I did read one professional review that had a problem with the diagonal picture of 31.5" and paying about $200 extra for the IPod docking center, but actually both of those items were selling points for me. Because of the size of the room and the furniture that this unit had to go in the outside dimensions of the TV made the 31.5" & total width of the unit are perfect. CNET talked about being able to buy some sort of device to add via HDMI that could do the same as the docking station, but honestly I didn't want to deal with that whole thing...more wires, improper hookups etc, so paying for that feature TV is worth it to me. We have 2 teenagers and everyone in the house has an IPod, and there's music on in our home almost all day. The on screen menus w/IPod docked are outstanding and the sound is great. Being able to use the remote to operate the IPod is excellent. I have two negatives: My biggest beef with the TV is the remote control. It doesn't have back lighting and it isn't intuitive. I was able to program my cable box and DVD easily enough, but there's no way to page thru my cable box program guide. Also, I can operate the cable box, but to change volume, I have to slew back thru the different modes from STB (cable box) to TV, which is a pain in the ass. Also, which has become a gold standard with any Asian electronic equipment, the instructions are utterly worthless. The picture suck, the verbiage sucks and even though you can figure setup out with what's in there and a little deductive reasoning, it fails miserably as a guide. If you have truouble calibrating the picture, check this site out, http://www.jakeludington.com/hdtv/20071013_free_hdtv_calibration_slides.html
I'd highly recommend this unit.
