Although CNET did not review the 37-inch LG 37LB5D, we did review the 47-inch LG 47LB5D. Judging from their spec sheets, the two LG flat-panel HDTVs are identical but for screen size, so we expect the picture quality of the 47-inch model to provide a good indication of how the 37-incher will perform. For more information, check out the full review of the LG 47LB5D.

LG 37LB5D.

Pros: LG LCD TV had it for 1 and half years.

Cons: Main board went out, I wonder if there is a manufacture defect on this model. LG 37LB5D.

Review: Main board went out, I wonder if there is a manufacture defect on this model. LG 37LB5D. It will cost me $465.00 to fix it. I am not sure what to do fix it or buy a new one for $800.00.

Great picture -very good service

Pros: Picture is sharp and price was right. Not a videophile so my expectations are not high. Had a issue at startup, the screen would freeze. Called service and they scheduled a tech to come out. He call to confirm he had the right part and it was fixed.

Cons: Better quality control would have avoided the problem in the first place

LG Service is Useless

Pros: Picture was good while the TV worked

Cons: Reliability, Service

Review: My first LG TV bought in Sept '07 was inoperable when I got it home. After an immediate replacement from the store, the unit worked until last month. When turning it on, smoke began pouring from the back of the TV, accompanied by the smell of burning plastic.
After 1 month I still have no TV and LG cannot seem to communicate with their service center to get my records on file. This is the worst consumer electronics experience I have ever had.

Unsafe stand!

Pros: Good picture

Cons: Unsafe stand!

Review: I bought this 37 inch set and took it home. I spent more than an hour trying to get the stand secured to the set with the four little screws. With the screws as tight as possible, the set rocked back and forth, threatening to tip over. Finally, in desperation, I loaded the set back into the car and took it back to the store. The television guys spent another 45 minutes trying to secure the stand, then finally pulled a second 37" LG television and tried to secure THAT stand. Both televisions rocked badly with the tiniest touch. This is not safe, especially if you have children or pets!

To date I would not buy another LG TV

Pros: Good picture. Good speakers

Cons: Control Board went out after 1 yr and 3 months

Review: To date I will not purchase another LG TV. I have owned this tv for 1 year and 3 months. I had to replace the control board. The tv repair man ordered one in and it was bad from the factory, Second one worked.
Total was $534.10.
Moral of the story if you buy an LG make sure to buy the extended warranty. Saved me money on this purchase. 2 1/2 weeks downtime.

This is a great TV.

Pros: Good picture for the price.

Cons: So far none.

Review: Listen I'm no expert, but this one has a better picture than all of the other TV's I looked at in this size and price range. I've watched broadcast hd signals, regular DVD and Blue Ray on it and I think its great.

What a fantastic LCD

Pros: Fantastic HD picture, great SD picture, wonderful interface, stylish, great QAM tuner

Cons: none that I have encountered

Review: I would purchase this set again and again. I tried several TV's in the 37" range (Sharp, Toshiba, Samsung) and really feel that this LG outshines any LCD I currently own.

Most HD LCD's offer a fantastic HD picture. I have been really impressed with this LG, however. I feel the colors are richer on this set than most that I have seen, and the sharpness of the picture is greater as well. Even SD pictures come through well on the set, which can be a problem for some LCD's.

The QAM tuner picked up all the local HD channel's with ease. For some reason my Sharp will not pick up the HD NBC signal in my area, but the LG does.

The menu interface is great as well. The TV will provide you with a list of channels available to you as you type in the channel number that you want to go to, which makes jumping to new channels easy. It functions like an autocomplete feature, however, it doesn't complete it for you. It just shows the options available for that number sequence.

My only wish is that the TV came with an additional jack for an HD antenna. It only has one shared coaxial jack for both the cable/antenna hookup. This may be a problem for some who are looking to use both. It can be easily bypassed, however, if you are using a box with your cable/satellite service, since most have inputs available using HDMI, component jacks, or some other option.

I highly recommend this LG television. Buy the 42LB5D if you are looking for a slightly bigger set of the same quality.

LG continues to impress me with their products.

Pros: Great picture and AV options for the price. I continue to find myself buying LG products due to its quality. They are one of the largerst electronics making parts for all other tv manufactures.

Cons: Not too many for the price.

Review: One of the biggest things that impresses me is the quality and price of the LG TV's (LCD or Plasma). The fact they make many parts for other of the top TV manufactures is impressive as well.

Excellent 1080P set

Pros: Great viewing angles, bright, adjustable back light, flexible inputs

Cons: No 1:1 pixel mapping on lower than native resolution - explanation below

Review: This is a fabulous set.

First off, it's a Super-IPS panel which provides phenomenal viewing angles, and consistent colour throughout those viewing angles. A side benefit is that Super-IPS panels have a lower dead pixel or sub-pixel occurrence in my experience. My set has ZERO defects. No clouding, banding, uneven backlight. Screen quality is excellent.

A little background: My screen is being used as an HDTV, computer monitor, PS3 and Xbox 360 TV. It is excellent with all. I am using 1920x1080 pixel perfect resolution with all three, and the sharpness (while adjustable) is as good as ANY LCD monitor I have ever seen, and at this size of 37" there is NO such thing as eyestrain. Another benefit is that this screen is tuned to display movies well and it does over any of these three devices.

It even includes a 10 minute auto-shutdown setting, so that if the current input has no signal for 10 minutes the TV will shutdown automatically, saving both power and wear/tear, very similar to a computer monitor.

The only reason I did not give this TV a "perfect 10" is because when I used it on my PC and play games at lower than 1920x1080 resolution, it will not show black bars around the edges in 1:1 pixel mapped fashion, which is typical of a computer monitor. But due to the fact that I'm using it in a "customized" fashion (ie. not just as a TV) you could score my set in particular a 10.

Great looking TV and I enjoy more than my more expensive Pioneer

Pros: Great Picture and Features

Cons: Not many Cons yet, could happen down the road, but any TV can have that chance

Review: I have a Pioneer 50 inch Plasma which is great. But I really enjoy watching my LG LCD more. It is a great product. I have not had any issues with freezing frames. I have 2 LG's one at 26" and the other 37" and both work flawless and both have great pictures

LG LCD Beware

Pros: Great Picture; Great Features

Cons: Picture Freezes at random times; random channels

Review: I purhcased an LG LCD 37" a couple of years ago and gave it raving reviews - 9 out of 10! Since then, I've found the picture "freezes" at random times and on random channels. The same problem has occured in Australia and LG has deployed a software fix there. I've written to LG and received a very cool response - no help from LG is forthcoming. If you are considering purchasing an LG LCD TV you might want to ask some questions about this problem. I've rated this TV even though I don't own this model (CNET requirement.)
Updated
The problem with the TV has been corrected. I'll go back to my original rating: 9 out of 10!
