"Great TV, Great Price, Great Features"
Pros: Piano Black Finish, Great PQ, easy menu
Cons: no pip, internal HD turner or removable speaker
Summary: After doing my due diligence and months of research I had decided to go with the highly regarded Pioneer PDP5070. Prior to pulling the trigger I decided to go check out the PDP5071 at Best Buy. IF you don?t know the 5071 is the same as the 5070 just BB includes another remote and charges around 600 more, SCAM!
And that?s when everything changed??. I saw the 5070, a great picture indeed and a very sharp looking tv. BB had it placed next to the new Samsung and the new LG, I think Samsungs are over rated and the new release does nothing to change my mind. It looked of a lessor class between the LG and the Pioneer. The LG did suffer from some minor False Contouring, but not enough to bother me. And the anti glare filters on both displays were beautiful. I brought a pen light in to reflect off the screen and both displays performed equally. Overall, the pictures complimented each other very well and it was hard for me to choose one over the other. By one insignificant pixel the LG does carry a higher resolution, however, the 5070 does beat out he LG in terms of inputs, but not by much. Both have excellent speakers, and very user friendly remotes. Additionally, I should note that the LG has a 2 year warranty, bonus!!
So, the BB rep put together an excellent package I couldn?t refuse. I put two months of research behind me and went with the LG! Got her home, hooked her up via HDMI and WOW. She is beautiful, in HD even sharper and brighter then my previous Panasonic. The older models suffered from horrible image retention, not the case here, not at all. HOWEVER, (and maybe someone can provide some insight here) channels in standard definition are not so hot! They looked better on my 42? Panasonic (which I had hooked up via component) The picture is not ?bad? by any definition of the word, color temperature and accuracy are still spot on, the image is just more digitized with slight pixilization. Is this common with the new larger size displays in SD? I?m not sure if I would get a better picture with the Pioneer 5070...
And the same goes for watching DVDs. I have an OLDER DVD player, hooked up via component cables and the image also looked better on my older Panasonic. I?ve read that with the newer displays you need a DVD player that up converts? is this true?
So those two issues aside the TV is beautiful, in HD the picture is incredible: crisp, clean, fast and bright with little to no FC. Sound is great, the stand is beautiful (although I have mine wall mounted).
So, I?m very happy with my purchase?. I?m going to get a new DVD player and let everyone know how that woks out

I have this TV and am very satisfied with all but one thing. When I change the channel it tages 3-4 full seconds for the station to change, The screen goes black during this time. I had a prior plasma TV set up with this same equipment and configuration and did NOT have this problem. Does anyone else have this problem or does anyone have a suggestion to solve this problem?
