"Excellent TV for the Price"

4.5 stars  | on by paindoc2012

Pros

Good picture quality, reasonable price, 3 HDMI inputs, NO SMART TV (this is an advantage), NO 3D (this is an advantage)

Cons

Some Glare 'cause it's plasma

I looked extensively for the best value in 50" flat screen televisions. I almost bought a 3D set, but just did not want to replace my very reliable and stylish Samsung BD-P4600 BR player with internet apps. I was tempted by the LED sets, but most came with 3D , which I consider a passing fad that is relatively expensive. I was almost lured by "Smart TV", but then a BestBuy sales rep pointed out that you can purchase a Roku peripheral for under $100 that is infinitely more upgradable and versatile than the ones that are built into individual devices. I did not, however, purchase from BestBuy, but rather found this TV for ~ $675 including shipping/taxes on Amazon.com.

I also purchased:
Monster Cable MP AV 800 PowerCenter with Surge Protection ($26.90)
Roku XDS Streaming Player 1080p ($99.00)
3X Mediabridge Ultra Series - High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet - Category 2 Certified - Supports 3D & Audio Return Channel ($9.99 each).

The 47" LG LED TV @ BestBuy with 3D DVD/BluRay with similar equipment was $1,400.

My total price for this package was $828.

I did not want 3D and the Plasma Picture is very clear, with little glare. This was the perfect match for me. I am currently connecting the television to a surround sound system wired to the home I am renting this year.

This was a great bargain. If you do not need 3D, then go this route and save some $$ while giving yourself the option spend $$ on other items and upgrade components.

"Great Plasma TV for performance and price."

5 stars  | on by UTBadger

Pros

Great picture. Easy set-up. Great connectivity with 3 HDMI. Intuitive features for adjustment.

Cons

So-so speakers, but that's to be expected.

This is my first flat screen. My previous TV was an old 32" tube. I got it for watching movies via blue-ray and netflix. I did a lot of research online and looking in stores. The plasmas never look as good in the showrooms because of all the bright lights, but I knew I needed plasma because I have a pretty dark living room. I found the set-up very easy for a newbie and easily hooked it up to my blue-ray, roku, and a speaker bar. The picture quality is not great out of the box. I also wasn't happy with most of the presets. I set it on Expert and took about 30 minutes making adjustments. Now the picture is fantastic no matter what the source. I could not be happier with the purchase. Great picture, 50", and around $700 - You can't do better than that.

"50PV400 = Value"

4 stars  | on by Crayon20

Pros

I bought the 50PV400 considering that I still watch non-HD channels such as Space, Discovery Science, and The Military Channel. My considerations towards getting any TV were colour quality, physical size, and price. At $650 (Futureshop), the 50PV400 it's

Cons

The 50PV400 is missing the ambient light sensor and the USB input as opposed to the 50PV450. I kept the remote's batteries and threw it (LG URC WR7) into a drawer. It was bulky with poor button placement, I much rather prefer using my backlit Motorola Uni

The 50PV400 is a good buy it's sold at Costco as well as Futureshop and Best Buy (in Canada). The TV is inexpensive enough that I anticipate it depreciate in its percentage value less than other TV's within its class with similar specifications. Meaning that when you eventually try to sell this TV on CragsList or Kijiji you won't take as big a hit as other 50" Plasma buyers. I have yet to need LG customer service; therefore, I cannot (at this time), comment on the quality of either the warranty or LG's customer service centre. No problems so far.
