"Could Not Be More Pleased!" on by Mike-Richey
Pros: See summary
Cons: See summary
Summary: I did a lot of looking around before I made this purchase. To me, I thought the LG and Samsung models were the most consistent from store to store. Both have an excellent picture. It comes down to whether you prefer the glossy (Samsung) or matte (LG). I'll admit the glossy displays can look clearer under some circumstances, but reflections are an issue. I chose LG.

I saw more of the LE5400 in stores but decide to go with this model when a great price came along. No regrets there at all. The display is awesome with HD and Blu-Ray. The SD is better than my 46" Toshiba. Noticeably better. There is some ghosting when the screen is completely black, it doesn't bother me. With fast action scenes you forget you're watching a television, it's so natural.
One great feature I like about the set is the self-calibration process. Piece of cake. I have an AppleTV so I have not tried the streaming features yet. It's a downer that you have to buy a wireless dongle.
My delivery from Modia was great. There is a review here that disses the LG packaging and it scared me somewhat. I honestly can't figure out what the guy is talking about. Apparently he has some type of ax to grind with LG or he's a Sony dealer or something.
LG makes a great LED for a great price. I would highly recommend the 55LE5500.

"Not as good as the 8500, but really close for $1K less!" on by ledesmkv
Pros: - Great performance for the money
- Local dimming
- Menu allows picture to be adjusted very simply, but also allows very "techie" adjustments for the more hardcore.Cons: None... wish LG made a 60+ in. version?
Summary: I was looking for a replacement to my Samsung 61" DLP that crapped out on me. Wanted to replace it with a LCD/LED 60", but there really aren't any great options out there. Decided to go for quality over quantity and looked into LG. Wanted the 55LE8500 originally, but then looked at the 55LE5500. I won't go through each spec difference, you can look that up yourself. At the end of the day, the 5500 has 90% of the features and performance of the 8500, but for $1000 less. As a bonus, got a free LG 750 blu-ray player as part of an LG promo.

"Okay TV for price" on by LG_expert
Pros: Uneven backlighting, corners and close to bottom looks brighter than the rest of the screen. Standard channels looks real fuzzy and grainy. HD channels are looking fine. Touchpad control is awfull,TV is acting up on it's own, changing channels, volum up a
Cons: Samsung has much better colors and picture doesn't look grainy on standard channels. LG is better because of cheaper pice.

"Fantastic TV!! Great Price!! Amazing Picture Quality!!" on by MrMerk05
Pros: The TV has one of the best pictures I have seen on any TV within its price range. I bought this TV from Fry's yesterday for $1099. After seeing evreyone leave the store with it. I said "something has to be special about that TV." And it truly was!
Cons: The only con is that I wish it had built in WiFi. I had to go back out and spend another $79.99 on the LG WiFi Dongle for the TV's internet features. But overall still please because of the total price paid.
Summary: The TV was fairly easy to set up. And once that was done. I was now ready to check it out. And I must say, I was not disappointed at all. The crispness of the picture quality was amazing.
I'm a techy so the TV's remote control had to look cool and it does. It has backlit buttons, that gave it a nice elegant feel.
I set up the VUDU feature on it. And was given a $5.99 free movie credit for signing up. Ordered "UnStopable", and watched it for the 10th time. The picture was insane.
I am now going to go out and see if they make a LG sound bar that would give this TV that "Extra Umf"!!! -
"Could not be happier! (So Far)" on by JoeMac01
Pros: Amazing picture, very accurate colors, great overall design and very sleek! Great overall value
Cons: Speakers! They are adequate for most general purposes, but they definitely have a very tinny sound (what can you really expect from a TV that is just over 1" thick though?)
Summary: I bought this TV for $1299. from Fry's Electronics, I had to ask the sales rep what the joke was since just a few weeks ago they had it for $1800. It was just that this particular TV was on sale (Ends 1/6/11).
After having this set for a couple days, I noticed some illumination along the top edge when the screen was dark (watching movies with letterboxes). I called Fry's to do an exchange and after a week I now have my new set. The replacement does not have the stray illumination problem at all! (bubbles of light along the top edge) and I have absolutely no complaints! A friend of mine has the 8500 model from LG and even he says he can barely tell if there is a difference in image quality between the two sets. After two weeks I am still extremely happy with my purchase.
Overall, I am EXTREMELY happy with my purchase! All of the issues that I have heard of regarding this set (light black levels, bleeding around the edge to name a couple) are either very minor or not noticeable. I am coming from a Samsung DLP (HLP5063W) and the difference in picture is truly stunning. All my Blu-Rays look like entirely different movies!
All I can say is purchase this TV, you will not be dissapointed. I would however, recommend the purchase of an external speaker system since the speakers on the TV are "adequate" but leave much to be desired.
