"Great value, but some flaws to consider before buying" on by ehay2k
Pros: Excellent black levels, extremely granular picture controls, great price, low power consumption, looks good on a wall.
Cons: Awful artifacts when watching 720p or 1080i sources, 240Hz processing is a trick.
Summary: I bought in November 2009 at BB after months of shopping an reading reviews. It helped that BB had this on sale for $1900 at the time. It is still the cheapest 55 inch LED/LCD display on the market, unless something changed today. I bought because I wanted great black levels and extensive picture controls, and the LG has these in spades. It also did NOT have any of the Yahoo/Twitter/Facebook gadgets/widgets that other sets have. I already get those via my PC, Blu-ray player, and FIOS set-top box, so why pay for those capabilities on my TV? Plus, I wanted to have only 1 power cord and 1 HDMI cable feeding the LG, not an ethernet cable too. Everything runs through a Pioneer SC-05 receiver, and HDMI sources are fed raw through the SC-05. This brings me to my issues. First, 240Hz processing is a marketing gimmick as far as I can tell because there is, to my eye anyway, zero difference when it is enabled. Perhaps it is the way it is implemented on the LG (and also on the Toshibas, IIRC), but I have never heard any reviews saying it was impactful, and based on my experience I would never pay extra for that feature. Second, watching blu-ray movies is a joy on the LG. I don't even notice the drop off of black levels with slight off-angle viewing as the CNET guys seem to note about every LCD set. (Guys, how big are your couch cushions - 10 feet?) What I do notice, and what CNET clearly didn't test, is that when viewing 720p or 1080i video sources, the LG seems to try to upconvert to 1080p and in the process creates a TON of artifacts. Sometimes, it looks like the image has been photoshopped into sugar-cube-sized pixels. Watch a football game and you will see this during slo-motion replays. Watch HD channels (I have FIOS with a 1080i HD STB) and you will see it there too. I have tried turing off all the video processing on the LG to no avail. This one flaw really detracts from what is otherwise a great display.
So, if you are looking for a home-theater display for watching blu-ray or other 1080p sources, give the LG a close look. But if you want to watch 720p or 1080i sources, you'd do well to spend some time with this set to see if the artifacts make it unwatchable. -
"Great TV- Sound Issues" on by danielkh00
Pros: Excellent Picture. Love the fact that its full LED Back lighting.
Cons: It has a horrible Lip Sync problem. Anything I plug into it using any HDMI cable it has a good half a second of audio lag behind the video. Its not as bad using component cables but still is not perfect. And LG's Customer service is horrible!
Summary: Would recommend it if you weren't spending thousands of dollars to get a TV where the sound doesn't match the video.

"I didn't work the first time" on by auditlife
Pros: Amazing picture quality, deep black level, tons of expert settings for those that know what they're doing, easy set-up, easy to use color calibration feature, matte screen excellent in higher lit rooms.
Cons: Potential for lip sync issues, LG customer service is horrible (and you may need it)
Summary: First TV went back to Best Buy because of major lip sync issues. A technician came out twice; once to update software, which was already updated (I told you customer service was bad). Second time tech came out to replace the board and that made lip sync worse. I took the TV back to Best Buy, made them deliver a new one and now I don't have any lip sync issues. If you have lip sync issues, the best thing to do is replace the TV before your return period is up.
Title should be "It didn't work the first time"
Let me explain in more detail. The lip sync problem was experienced through my time warner dvr AND my blu-ray player. Connections were HDMI. Component didn't exhibit problems like HDMI did.
I almost returned the TV to purchase a Samsung 8500, but I wanted to give the TV another chance since I got such an amazing deal and the picture quality rivals most plasmas. I was happy I did. For the price, I don't think you'll find a better quality picture.

"Everything I hoped plus more" on by jdhenderson4426
Pros: ease of setup; bright colors and deep blacks, options, compatibility with LHB953 BD
Cons: swivel too wide in front
Summary: I did lots of research before I bought my 55LH90 and jumped through lots of hoops to get one. I finally had one ordered through Best Buy for $1999. After I finally got the tv, it was remarkably easy to set up and get running. My non-tech wife can even use it with ease. I was also impressed with its quick set-up with the LBH953 blue-ray. We were up and running Netflix and Youtube within minutes, literally.
This TV is more than what you're average dude needs in his cave. Especially for the price.
My only issue was fitting it into my home-made cabinet. I ultimately had to remove the base and turn it around to get it to fit property. Because of this, I had to provide add'l support to prevent it from losing balance.
Overally, unbelievable TV and great price. I'd recommend it--and might buy another for another living room. -
"I loved my TV until a thin vertical black line appeared" on by Jameshalversen
Pros: Picture is beautiful. Good sound.
Cons: 2 months out of warranty I get this black vertical line stretching from top to bottom of the TV. I'm so freakin pissed. Never buying an LG again
