  • "TV w/PS3 slim blinks in 1080p!"
    2.0 stars
    on by iliftup

Pros: Since I came from an old non-HD TV, my experience has been delightful. However, when I finally figured out to switch my PS3 to HDMI cables my experience soured. Especially since seeing the HD clarity.

Cons: Frequent blackout of audio/video for 1-2 seconds. Happens in menu, playing games, watching video.

I've replaced TV, PS3, HDMI cables w/o change. Issue seems to be with the TV (LG 55LE8500) and the PS3 slim. Both units have updated firmware.

Summary: This is unacceptable, especially given CNET's high ratings on both these high end products. HELP!

I recommend you to re-visit the settings on both PS3 slim & the TV. Coz, I use the TV majorly for playing PS3 games and didn't notice the issue you're talking about till today.

I really like everything on the TV; except Glare during day-time, which i believe is common on all the LED TV's. But the picture quality is the best during nights.

Since you are new to HDTV and HDMI, I assume you didn't know there are differences in HDMI cables.

    This is from HDMI.com:
    Q. What is the difference between a "Standard" HDMI cable and a "High-Speed" HDMI cable?
Standard (or "category 1") HDMI cables have been tested to perform at speeds of 75Mhz or up to 2.25Gbps, which is the equivalent of a 720p/1080i signal.
High Speed (or "category 2") HDMI cables have been tested to perform at speeds of 340Mhz or up to 10.2Gbps, which is the highest bandwidth currently available over an HDMI cable and can successfully handle 1080p signals including those at increased color depths and/or increased refresh rates from the Source.

If you experience flickering in signal, check to see if your cable is "High Speed" HDMI cable. If not sure, replace it with a "High Speed” HDMI cable, Category 2, version 1.3 or higher. They are all over the Internet at $10 or less.

Also check the PS3 setting for 1080i output or better.
