"Really, reall, really great picture! So different than the reviews."
Pros: low price (1499), great picture, nice appearance
Cons: poor sound quality, not so great remote.
Summary: I almost didn't buy this tv after reading the editor's review but I could not deny the quality I saw in the store, so I thought I'd at least take it home and evaluate more closely. I compared it side by side last night with a cheap but decent LCD (vizio gL46 (1649), and also the Panasonic 50PX60U (1999) as much as I wanted to like the Vizio better I could not deny that the Maxent plasma produced a consistantly better picture quality. It it almost indistinguishable from the panasonic 50" plasma also. THen I looked in the back with a flashlight and I could clearly see that the Maxent unit has the same part number as the panasonic for it's display. It was MC127H27D9 in the Maxent and MC127H27F9 in the Panasonic. I believe this means they are both using Panasonic 9th generation plasma pannels, though I do not know what the difference is between the "D" and the "F". If anyone knows please reply. This is a really nice monitor for the money. Can't see paying 500 more for the panasonic at this point.
