"Great picture, low price equals great value" on by TC Rider

    Pros: Beautiful picture, very affordable

Cons: Only one HDMI port, no tuner

Summary: I've had mine since early December. I learned about this set on avsforum.com, which is good since it's not heavily advertised.

I found the picture quality in the store to be equal or better to the Panasonic, Pioneers and others.

I use a cable set-top box so the lack of a tuner is not a problem. Another HDMI port would be nice, but not worth another 6 or 7 hundred dollars. As it is, I use component cables for the cable input and use the HDMI port with my upconvert DVD player.

I've no issues with the silver cabinet, it seems like half the sets in the store have silver cabinets. I removed the speakers as soon as I got it home since they added nothing to the HT sound system I already had.

I love it when friends and family come over and are blown away. When they ask what brand, they assume Maxent is some ultra high-end brand they never heard of.

"Great monitor for the price." on by rkklinke

Pros: Nice contrast, decent brightness, great value

Cons: No tuners available, and the sound from the detachable speakers could be better. It does not get very loud, especially when you are trying to listen when in a loud environment.

Summary: For me the clean and simple lines of this plasma were a selling point. Also the detachable speakers, although disappointing in sound quality, is a must for me. Too many plasms today have large speakers that can not come off. The quality of the picture is very good for its price point and if you are using an external sound system and a Cable/Sat box this is a great plasma. I looked at several other plasma that cost much more and could not see a huge difference between them. I currently own 4 plasmas, three are full HD sets and one is an ED only set. This was the cheapest plasma I have purchased and is probably my best one. Pound for pound and dollar for dollar, you can not go wrong with this unit.

"It's great but..." on by goofyfoot2001

Pros: PRICE PRICE PRICE - PC Connectivity

    Cons: Regular TV is Grainy

Summary: Obviously if you are considering this plasma it's because of the price. Got mine a month ago. Now will someone please come and peel my ass off this couch. Like anything else you get what you pay for but in regards to this plasma you get the picture that the cable company sends you. Hi-Def programming is great and contrast, brightness and color are excellent. The detail is very very good. You will only care if you have a panasonic sitting next to it and then the difference is obvious. When you get it home you are just in awe. Oh and don't even bother with a 42 inch screen. way too small. Regular programming on the big screen can be grainy but it's not the set it's the signal. On the same channel some shows are going to look great and some are not. simple. DVD looks very good but I cry out for HDVD ir Blueray. I have my computer hooked up to the plasma at 1024x768 and it looks fantastic. Games are incredible. You will have to adjust your fonts in order to get it perfect. The remote on this thing could be laid out better. There is a secret panel on the remote that hides the best controls near the bottom. Took me a week to find it. PIP is only available through the HDMI interface. I have my PC hooked to that and then I can watch tv on a 17in. screen at any corner. All in all I am quite happy and about the time I pay this one off (3 grand when you throw in warranty and cables) I'll get a panasonic. Go get it. Get it now. You know you want it.

"Maxent MX-50X3 - Most cost effective quality 50 inch plasma I've reviewed in 6 months" on by grdarkens

Pros: Value for money. (I believe this has Panasonic display panel). Detachable speakers, good range of audio / video inputs. Excellent color and contrast range

Cons: No ATSC tuner, only available in silver, remote control could be better designed (most needed functions are behind a cover). The quality of the onboard sound is poor, use external source as I do.

Summary: I bought this PDP during the last week of February. The price was a shade over the $2K from Best Buy with discounts and the like, there was no other plasma at this price and when I compared it alongside the Panasonic, Philips, LG, Samsung & Hitachi it held up very well indeed. Color is as good as the best and the contrast held up well too. Since I've got the unit home I will say that I'm just as impressed although the onboard sound is poor, but with a Plasma you'll want to use it with 5.1 surround sound as I do I'm sure.

My advice is certainly that you can buy this PDP and you won't be disappointed and you'll save probably around $1K or more on the competition.

"Regents Maxent TV... Nice" on by diamus

Pros: Cheap, great picture, 60000 hours half-life...

    Cons: NOTHING... nothing at all

Summary: So what, this TV doesn't have a tuner... Big deal. Th ATSC tuner is only good if you DON'T have cable or satellite. Also, are you going to have a DVD player hooked to it? How about a video game system? Well, why not have a cable box, then? CableCARD is horrible. No pay-per-view, sports packages, recording, or on-screen guide (unless the TV says "TV Guide" on it). The sound is great if you're not in a retail store. I give this TV a perfect rating because this is something is awesome and affordable.
