"Fantastic picture, superior build quality" on by munier2005

Pros: Vibrant colours, vivid picture quality, out of box easy setup, great style and solid Mitsubishi quality

Cons: perhaps a more robust sound but again I have a nice surround system

Summary: I purchased this TV on May 5th at Circuit City it was on sale for $1999. I have been keeping a close eye on this set for quite sometime now and jumped on the opportunity as soon as it went on-sale.

After extensive research it came down to 3 sets. The LT-46131, Samsung LNT4661F and the overly priced Sony KDL46V2500. All the above 3 sets that I had been researching were right next to each other with the same feed. However, the feed was from a 1080i source.

The A/V Manager confirmed that they do not calibrate the TV's and they are turned on right out of the box so the playing field is even so to speak.

After staring at the 3 for about 30 mins or so from various angles I think the picture quality was pretty much the same on all 3 sets. However some scenes seemed slightly more sharper on the 46131 when there was motion involved in this case a scene depicting sky divers. The Sony showed a slight unnatural glow on the helmets as the divers darted about in the air, the samsung
did show a slight blur for this scene.

The colours really stood out when the scene
switched to a field with sunflowers. This is where the 46131 really popped my eye! I could
see every single air bubble in the raindrops
on the petals! Yes it has to been seen to be believed. Go to CC and watch closely. The Sony blurred the raindrops and the Samsung too did not show the level of detail that 46131 did.

I had them switch it to a full 1080p source
and they obliged by throwing in Casino Royale on Blu-ray. I was totally blown away by all the 3 sets again there was barely any difference however the Samsung had hues slightly on the cooler side (I am sure this can be adjusted with the hue control) but again I was comparing them OUT OF BOX no calibration.

Best of all the Mitsubishi beat them both on Price. Samsung has come a long way in electronics and TV's. Sony is riding its name again and charging premium but quality is still good if you have $$ to throw away. But everyone or atleast the A/V enthusiasts know well that Mitsubishi were the first to produce big screen TV's and the DLP technology. Mitsubishi is a very reliable company and its products over the years have proven that.

So I bring the TV home and a friend came over with his PS3 and XBOX360 and we played a few games with various resolutions some at 720p some 1080i. PS3 with full 1080p was totally jaw dropping! even my wife (who has always been happy with her 26 inch CRT toshiba from the stone ages )made a comment about it!! in her words "wow this is stunning".

My BIG apprehension about the Mitsubishi was that they never published the refresh rate. Samsung openly boasts about its 4-8ms refresh rates on its sets. After having played games both on the xbox and ps3 for a good 3 or 4 hrs my apprehension about the refresh rate for Mitsubishi was defragmented. I did not see any ghosting, shaking, lag or any thing indicative of a slow refresh rate.

The SD for normal tv is great and the 4D nopise filter really helps a lot. We were watching Iron Chef on SD tv and we kickedup the 4D noise filter to high and all the grain and smudges went away the picture cleared up.
We do not have HD cable yet but we are moving in a few weeks and I am getting digital HD cable at the new house.

I was not able to play any HD/Blu-ray movies since I do not have a HD/Blu-ray player yet but I think I may be able to convince my wife
that we get a ps3 so we can watch blu-ray movies in full 1080p and play a few games too in full 1080p !!

Ok I will finish this book by saying that go buy this tv and like it! Too bad you did not get it when it was $1999. But at the time of this review it is $2099 at CC. Grab one!

"Stunning, crisp, and clear. It's an excellent TV." on by MrSSH

Pros: Matches Sony's 1080p Bravia picture quality for less money.

Cons: For the price, I expected a more robust set of picture controls.

Summary: I had the opportunity to preview this Mitsubishi 46 inch LCD panel along with Sony’s similar 1080p Bravia display. I compared the dark tones, color, and light reproduction carefully on both TVs and could not find any differences. Both were fed the same high definition signal. Then, I looked at both price tags and couldn’t justify the cost for the Sony.

Don’t get me wrong, I am big on Sony. I love their TVs. If you want a great TV then get a Sony but be prepared to pay more for it. In my case, I chose the Mitsubishi because it was nearly nine hundred dollars cheaper than Sony’s equivalent.

But here’s the rub. I already own a Sony LCD rear projection HDTV. So, I’m familiar with Sony’s picture controls. The advantage with the Sony is, there are a greater number of picture controls to customize the picture.

I find there are fewer picture controls on the Mitsubishi, -- this may be by design. It took me very little time to begin enjoying the Mitsubishi TV. So, if you’re looking for less fuss and more fun then perhaps this is the right TV for you.

I like this TV, but I’m still left wondering what it would be like to have more picture controls. Nevertheless, the picture quality on this TV clearly speaks for itself. It is stunning.

"Great Alternative to Sony's XBR" on by lrstevens421

Pros: 1080P. Excellent Picture Quality, Detail & Color Reproduction.

Cons: Average Black Levels. No 1080P on Component Video Inputs Only HDMI (Ok now I'm just making up stuff). This TV is Great !

Summary: Working in the industry I have seen tons of televisions. The first day I saw the Mitsubshi LT-46131 I knew it was something special. I have owned this television for about 4 weeks and am extremely pleased with it. Once calibrated (a few adjustments in the picture menu) the picture quality is absolutely breath-taking. It may not be the final word in black levels, but what it lacks in black-levels it makes up for in picture quality and detail. Don't get me wrong the black-levels on this television are good, just not the best available. The Sony XBR is better than the Mitsubishi in this regard, however the Mitsubishi bests the Sony in color reproduction and is equal to the Sony in picture detail. You can currently find this TV online for just under $3K with great financing offers. This television is a steal, did I mention firewire? Every night I come home the first thing I do is fire this puppy up (right after I kiss my wife), and I'm blown away everytime I tune in a high-def channel. I am no hi-def novice, this is my 4th high definition televison, previously owning a Panasonic PT-53WX52, Panasonic PT-50LC13, Vizio P50HDM and finally my beloved Mitsubishi. The Mitsubishi absolutely trounces my previous televisions, including the highly regarded Vizio. I know HDMI 1.3 is on the horizon but the picture quality of this set is hard to resist. Regular cable looks ok on this television but it needs a quality hi-def signal to really shine. This television is also among the best LCD's in terms of fast moving objects. When watching basketball and football games it's hard to detect any motion blur. I could not have made a better choice in a television. Mitsubishi is a class act.

"Awesome HDTV and a Great Deal @ CC" on by bodhisattvagroover

Pros: 46" size, PQ, value, Amazing Color

Cons: Slightly on the heavy side compared to other LCD's it's size

Summary: I was really fortunate to find this TV online at Circuit City for a little over $1800 so I went to my local CC to check it out. Turns out they had it for $1700 plus with my AAA discount I got it for a little over $1500 before taxes. WHAT AN INCREDIBLE DEAL!!! I couldn't pass it up and neither could my wife so we bought it on the spot with an upconvert DVD player (still waiting out the HD-DVD/Blu-ray format war).
I must tell you that I am very impressed with the picture quality and the colors are simply amazing!! If you're a photographer before the days of digital and know what Fujifilm Velvia is, then you could make a parallel to the Mitsubishi's color output on the screen. The reds are redder, the greens are greener and the overall color is just amazing. Did I say that the color is just amazing?!! Some films have a rather green cast on them, however (like Bourne Supremacy) but the Mitsu has six color adjustments which could alleviate any issues.
There are a lot of inputs on this TV, as well, so you could hook up your computer, firewire devices, etc. Cable card feature on the TV is kind of useless, though, because not too many carriers will accommodate. Also, I wished that the frame was all black like the LT-46231, but after a few days, I became fond of the silver part of the bezel. Anyhow, I end up looking at the stunning picture on the screen...and I don't even have blu-ray or HD-DVD source into it!!
If you can find this for less than $2K, grab it quick because they are being discontinued as they are 2007 models and 2008's are out already.
Did I say that the colors are AMAZING!!!

"Excellent quality, blacks only con" on by whodean

Pros: Great color, good inputs 1080p looks gorgeous

Cons: Blacks either are not deep enough or get crushed

Summary: Apparently this model is not being discounted, bought at Circuit City for $1799 which is a fantastic price for this display.

Colors are great, no complaints besides blacks.
