"Best LCD TV we have seen for clarity, motion, and sound" on by DeniB
Pros: Best Picture Quality, Clarity, and Focus even in sunlight that we have seen in the LCD TV Line. With the 16 speaker sound bar, a separate Surrond Sound System is not required. However, it will only enhance the quality and viewing pleasure even more.
Cons: So far no major ones that I have seen unless one considers the cost and the limited choices when connecting to the Internet, which is only to VUDU Movies at present. Maybe Mitsubishi will consider adding other choices to the next firmware update
Summary: The cost ranges from $2700.00 to $3100.00. We purchased ours from Barretts Home Theater Center in Naperville, Illinois and got a fantastic deal at $2640.00.
This is my 3rd Mitsubishi TV purchase from Barretts Home Theater, in Naperville and only needed their service once on each set we purchased. The first time was on a 21 inch CRT set purchased in 1983/84 time frame where they replaced the TV Tuner. I still have and use this TV set today. The second set, a 35 inch CRT Mitsubishi purchased in 1990, failed because the High Voltage Flyback Transformer arched itself to death in 1999. Unfortunitly, Mitsubishi never made a replacement flyback so Barretts could not repair this unit. I sold it for parts to a local TV reapir shop.
If you are looking for a great LCD TV, that is the best bang for your dollar, then this is the set you want. Home Goodz.com, is selling this same system, the LT52249, on-line for $2549.00 with free shipping but you need to set it up yourself. Barretts Home Theater store delivered the TV and set it up for a minimal fee that is well worth the additional cost.
An added bonus, which I highly reccommend, is that if anytning goes wrong, Barretts Service Department, is there to fix it for you. No need to contact Mitsubishi or your On-Line Retailer, where you purchased it from, for service.
If you want this TV, and I highly reccomend it, and do not mind ordering it on line, then Home Goodz is the place to purchase it from. However, it you want to purchase it from a reliable local dealer that will back it up with a great service department, then the Barretts Home Theater Store is the place you want to visit. I can assure you you will not be disappointed with your choice of stores, the sales professionals on staff, and their Service Department. A total worry and hassel free expierence awaits you. -
"I wanted a plasma with my Onkyo AVR, Polk Audio towers" on by Goatbreeder
Pros: Projection speaker system with wireless remote subwoofer is very good. Sound auto-calibration is cool and works great.
Picture quality is great and the color rendition is amazing - deep black and true reds.Cons: The initial setup screen didn't react the way I expected but it did setup OK. The remote may take some getting used to
Summary: If you don't want the large speaker full blown surround sound theater system as part of your AV setup this may be the system for you. There is a dedicated sub-woofer out and I got a Polk Audio 100 watt wireless subwoofer as part of the deal. We also got a Sony BRD-360S Blu-Ray (which was DOA in the box) and it is of course amazing. We previewed the movie UP with some friends and the color depths, the blacks, reds, purples, golds were just stunning. I looked at ALL of the high end systems from other manufacturers and I don't think any of them can match the color intensity this panel puts out. The sound was very strong even without an AVR. If you don't have the home theater electronics yet check this out you may not need to invest in the outside speakers, the AVR reciever and have there related "decor" issues. The 4 HDMI connections should be plenty and help make a quick easy and wire free setup. We are on Direct TV HD and the HD content is very good. We don't like the strech modes for standard def so I opted for the pillar file with black bars and it is very good. You don't notice the black bars. The speaker system pushed or lack of large freestanding speakers which my wife doesn't like was my "compromise" on this purchase but in my house the video on this TV is as good any of the high models I looked at and I think the color is the best I have seen. Most of the reviews seem to be a but dated for this unit. This unit has a 240 smooth cinema mode like 120 as some report and the latest model has a "deep color" processor that has a bandwidth of 30+ bit color processing.
The unit is energy star compliant and if you factor in not having to use an AVR to get decent theater quality sound it is even more efficient. The unit also comes with Vudu but won't be useful for me as I only have access to DSL which can't stream videos. If you want to play VHS tapes you should know that there are no S-video connections but you may be able to use or share the antena in connection. There are additional connections but my old VCRs didn't have any compatible outputs.
Bottom line: If you need a clean (no speaker clutter) implementation, don't have a Dolby/THX friendly listening room, don't have an AVR, but still want to have the theater sound effects and outstanding judder free deep colors you owe it to yourself to check this system. Also anyone can set this up. No speaker wires, no left, right input and output cables to and from the AVR just plug in to power and attach HDMI cables and you are done. -
"No Good, Don't Buy It" on by Jonfisher423
Pros: Sounds good, looks great hanging on the wall.
Cons: Broke in less then 6 months. Mitsubishi repair services very slow to respond and extremely inefficient.
Summary: I have been waiting for Mitsubishi to repair my TV since Memorial Day. I highly recommend you chose another company because when the TV breaks you will have problems getting it repaired. With that said, I will gladly sell you mine when its repaired at a substantial discount if you really have your heart set on this model. You have been warned.
Broke Memorial Day weekend.Repair technician showed up June 7, 2010 technician didn't know how to turn the TV on and called Mitsubishi Technical support.Confirmed main board failing told me his office would be in touch and left.June 17,2010 contacted Mitsubishi again, company claimed that repair service would not do the repair and a new company would be dispatched.Thats where we are June 18,2010, TV still broken.

Updated on Jun 18, 2010emailed Mitsubishi this message to give then a chance to respond publicly.
I have posted a review about my TV on several websites, here is a link to one.

I will continue to update these sites with your responses everyday, twice a day, until you make this problem right. We are not talking about a 20" TV that sits on my night stand. This was a major purchase for my wife and I and we trusted the name Mitsubishi. I now have a 2500.00 mounted wall piece which I can do nothing with. I expect things to break and thats ok, but I would never leave a customer hang with no resolve for repair. I don't think its to much to ask of a company your size to replace this TV, especially now with the amount of time I have been inconvenienced.
Updated on Jun 20, 2010No response from email sent to Mitsubishi on June 18,2010. New repair company contacted us Friday 6/18/2010 and set an appointment for Friday June 25, 2010. It will be another half day of vacation time spent waiting for the repair technician as the appointment time is between 8am and 12pm. We will see if the TV actually gets repaired 28 days after it failed,
Updated on Jun 21, 20102nd email sent to Mitsubishi today. Still no response from first email contact
Updated on Jun 22, 2010No response to Friday June 18,2010 email sent directly to Mitsubishi.
Updated on Jun 23, 2010June 23,2010. I got a response today at 5:57PM from the email I sent to MEUS Customer Care on Friday June 18,2010, they claim my email request has been forwarded to the Customer Relations Manager and he will be in touch with me shortly.
Still no working TV or replacement decision.
Updated on Jun 24, 2010June 24,2010 - TV service company called and cancelled repair appointment for Friday June 25, 2010 because part was nor received from Mitsubishi. I will give it another couple days then I guess its time to file a suit in small claims court.
Updated on Jun 28, 2010June 28, 2010 repair technician arrives with the board Mitsubishi sent. Even though the first repair order from June 7, 2010 clearly says "Needs Main Board Assembly", the tech installs a power supply board provided by Mitsubishi. Didn't fox the problem Tech will re-order the correct board. I called Mitsubishi and begged them to allow me to return the TV for a replacement so I can watch TV again, they said no. So another week for the new board, then probably another week to schedule repair and I still have no TV to watch! Not to mention the price of the TV has fell more then 600.00 in 6 months.
Updated on Jul 7, 2010On June 29, 2010 I got a phone call from Mitsubishi informing me they were now willing to replace the TV but I had to sign a replacement agreement. I signed the agreement and immediately return to the same email address they provided. On Juy 1, 2010 I get another call from Mitsubishi claiming they never got the email so I printed out the email and faxed both the email copy and the signed replacement agreement. Got 2 emails from Mitsubishi thanking me for contacting them and they were sorry for my problem, the email were identical word for word and claimed someone from Mitsubishi would contact me in 1 to 2 business days. Its now July 7, 2010, No contact, no resolve, and No TV to watch in my living room since Memorial Day weekend. This is not funny any more.
Updated on Jul 13, 2010Its now July 13,2010 and I was told I would receive a tracking number for my new new TV.
No tracking number, and no word yet from Mitsubishi, and still no working TV in my living room.
They did tell me 7 to 10 business days on the 7th of July, so we will give them at least until the 17 until I change the request to " send me a check and get this TV out of my living room "
Updated on Jul 21, 2010Yesterday the new TV arrived after more then a month of no TV in my living room. While the replacement I agreed to is a LT-55164 and yes its 3 inches bigger, this TV does not even come close to sounding as good as the LT-52249. The TV does have a picture and looks great, but my original reason for the purchase was for the performance of the sound because I didn't want to use an entire dolby sound system in my small living room.I am pleased to have working TV back in my living room, but not satisfied with the replacement model.I let you conclude if I will ever purchase a product from this company again. -
"Mitsubishi makes junk" on by majcric
Pros: It's a TV with decent styling.
Cons: It will fail not long after purchase.
Summary: Consider a panasonic if you want a TV with decent features and excellant reliability.
