"BUYER BEWARE OLEVIA/SYNTAX" on by Linda5186

    Pros: Picture was great

Cons: Customer service is the WORST!!

Summary: Purchased this TV December 10, after much research. Unfortunately for me the TV was defective on arrival!
When it is working it is a very nice TV, but the customer support from both Olevia and Target leave a lot to be desired.
Target will not replace the item... the corporate policy I am told is the item must be returned via shipping... you are responsible for packing the item and putting it outside for the shipping company to pick up... and once Target receives the TV back and it is processed thru receiving a credit will be issued... they say within 30 days... my credit card company AE says it will take 6 - 12 weeks... All this time with no TV, paying interest on the credit card or paying the balance and not be able to purchase another one until everything clears... I don't know about you but that is pretty steep!
Now Olevia... though it is under warranty I again must pack up the TV in the original box, ship it back to Olevia and when they receive it back they will ship another one to me... the TV weighs 100lbs packing it up is not easy and again I am without TV for a month or more while the transaction takes place. If I want a TV at the time the defective one is shipped I must give Olevia a $1600 credit card hold while they process the transaction.
EITHER WAY THE CONSUMER GETS SCREWED!!

The television has a one year warranty, I purchased the extended warranty... What else could I have done!?!
I am told by both TARGET and OLEVIA this policy falls under the "other terms and conditions" ... I wonder why they don't actually say that?

BUYER BEWARE OF TARGET AND OLEVIA!!!

    "Simply Amazing" on by SFTekStar12

    Pros: Awesome picture, incredible HD

    Cons: A bit heavy

Summary: This TV is amazing. Syntax-Brillian has done it - crushed the competition with a best in class display at a price nobody can resist. This HDTV has everything you need and then some at a great price.

I got one for my bedroom, and planned on mounting it on the wall. This TV is heavy - it has lots of glass in it - for a flat panel. I decided against mounting it, but the wall mount kit will hold the weight.

The HD picture is just stunning. I have a large tube HDTV in the living room, and the 542 is almost as good. One problem - Syntax-Brillian designed this TV to show the entire signal, so some local HD network programs have a tiny flicker at the top of the screen. This is a problem with the networks, not the TV. Other TVs crop the image so you won't see this, but they also prevent you from seeing the entire feed. This is only a problem for network HD channels - INDH, ESPN, PBS, Discovery, HBO, etc. don't have this issue.

I couldn't believe how crisp the HD picture was on a TV at this price point. What a great display.

"\Excellant picture, good value for the buck." on by Iblitsz

Pros: A lot of product for the money, very nice picture.

Cons: Very poor remote, codes are limited . Get A Harmony .

Summary: Would not be afraid to recomend, exceptional value when compared to other 42 in.LCD sets.
Remote is basically useless aside from TV, the adjustments & tweaks are plentiful. very easy set up once you get use to the icons.
I give this set a 7.5, may have given it an 8 if the remote weren't so poor.

"the case of the undividable speakers" on by larryhoffman

Pros: Built like a brick s-house. extra heavy metal mounting material

Cons: smtv cable cannot be attached to tv, manual has no info about the speaker removal.

Summary: I bought this tv from one of the shopping channels in toronto. One of the features was that the speakers could be removed to allow placing of dvd and other equipment under the tv screen.

    1. there was no instructions in the manual relating to how to remove the speakers.

    2. once removed they only could be mounted in a way where you see the components inside the speaker. Not p[retty. The bezel that forms the faceplate of the speakers when they are installed under the tv is only 1 piece. This means that you have 2 speakers and one cover that is double the size necessary to cover the speaker box.

I was told by someone at Olevia that originally they had a kit which dealt with this issue. The kit contained 2 individual bezel covers. This is the only logical way a customer could make use of the 2 individual speaker boxes.

I was told they no longer have these in stock!! This is B.S. Product that seems above quality in construction wimps out on bezels.

One of the other issues was that the price I paid had the bonus of a hdtv cable. Provblem is the cable cannot be attached to the back of the tv because there iis no matching female or male connection for the cable supplied.

"buy Olevia at your own risk!!!" on by mglou1

Pros: nice picture, while it was working.

Cons: After 16 months the TV went out. Parts/service are virtually impossible to obtain. Don't let the low price temp you. Spend a few extra dollars and buy from a reputable company.
