Pros Price, visual quality, light weight, 3 HDMI ports, Simple (no Smart TV features)
Cons Bit wobbly, Audio quality not the best, very thick
Summary We have been on the lookout for a new HDTV to replace our 7 year old EDTV for a while now. After several months of research, we purchased a Samsung LED but after a few days, we hated it and returned it. Back to the drawing board. We wanted to stick with Panasonic and preferably plasma but unfortunately, a good 90% of 2012 models of all televisions only come with 2 HDMI now (why, we don't understand). We need 4 HMDI ports! We've tried 3 different HDMI switch boxes and just don't like that route.
Recently, we came across this television (which has 3 HDMI) and thought, what the heck, let's give it a try. Wow!! Are we ever impressed! The visual quality is perfect for us, the menu is simple, no Smart TV features (which we don't need or want). This is a very simple but fantastic model.
My first beef was how thick it is but at the same time, it's so light in weight. The only con I have to complain about is the sound quality...not the best but in combination with our surround system, it works.
If you want a Smart TV or super thin model, keep looking but if you're on a budget and want something fantastic for it's price range, pick this TV up!!
Pros Not that expensive, light weight, decent picture.
Cons A little on the flimsy side, OK sound, very few connections, poor customer service.
Summary We were looking to replace a 34" Sony Wega Hi-Def 1080 TV that is used only with a DVD player. The old TV from 2006 weighed over 200lbs and was difficult to move and clean behind.
After researching different 42" TVs we decided on the Panasonic TC-L42U5. I read all the complaints about poor customer service but still purchased the Panasonic, I wish I could buy my old Sony back. The picture is not bad and the sound is just OK. The remote that came with the TV stopped working after 1 1/2 months. There are no useable controls on the front of the TV and very limited
ones in a difficult place to use on the back making it pretty much useless. The store where it was purchased told me that I would have to deal with Panasonic. After numerous phone calls and emails I was told that I would be required to purchase a new remote from their parts division. Panasonic stated that the remote was considered and accessory and only warrantied for 30 days and out of luck on that issue. The batteries were changed and tested 3 times when I decided to try and old universal remote. That worked but I could not use any of the menus. I asked a TV repair friend to look at it and was told the remote was no good. Shop around for a better refresh rate and some type of customer support. After this experience I would not purchase another Panasonic product.
