"Improved mid range plasma"4.0 starson by gmarceau
Pros: Much improved AR Filter, reduced phosphor trailing, great ANSI contrast, improved gamma
Cons: Floating blacks still exist in 3D, some off axis darkening of picture due to filter, minimum luminance similar to last year's S series
Summary: While Panasonic continues to update their plasma display panels every year with new technology, their black level performance, while good, is basically the same as it's been for the last 2 years in their mid range sets.
I was hoping this panel would get near 8G Kuro performance in black level. However, it's basically attains the same black level as the Panasonic S2 and G20. Since the blacks are much more stable, the depth of black attained on this panel is superior to the S2 and G20.
Shades of gradation in black seem to be improved and luckily, floating blacks are eliminated unless the brightness is raised above minimum luminance- which is what happens when switching to 3D mode.
