    "Excellent plasma display"

by kwkkwk on March 30, 2005

Pros: excellent picture, brightness, contrast, & color

Cons: few inputs standard, only 1 component video, cost extra to add inputs

Summary: I did a lot of research on plasma displays before buying this one. I was a little nervous buying such a pricey item thru the internet without actually seeing one, however, this one is everything that I hoped it would be. Only EDTV resolution but excellent picture, brightness, contrast, color, and VALUE for the money. DVD's look spectacular. The "JUST" viewing mode makes standard 4-3 tv signals look wide screen without producing squashed head syndrome. It stretches the edges leaving the middle aspect ratio intact, --this really works well. My plan was to run all video signals thru my A/V receiver and have a single component video signal from the receiver to the plasma. The problem is that each video source requires different settings for picture, brightness, etc. and the panel remembers the settings by the interface so if you use only one interface (component for example) you have to tweak several settings to get the best picture for a particular source (DVD, cable, etc.). There are no custom memory settings that you can define. Fortunately, my DVD player has a full suite of outputs, including VGA, and so I attached my DVD to the VGA input, my cable box to the component inputs (using a cable that has RCA connectors on one end and the needed BNC on the other). You could, of course, buy and install more inputs, if you want to shell out a little more cash. BTW, don't let anyone tell you that you have to buy an interface card to use this panel. One company not only tried to sell me the usual array of accessories and extended warranty, but insisted that the panel only had a PC VGA interface standard and that I needed to pay another $150 for a card to connect my cable box. This is just plain wrong. I cancelled that order on the spot. Do the research and know the product that you are buying or you can get ripped off. No stand or wall mount is included as standard. I went with the tiltable wall mount which I purchased from Tiger Direct for $99. Others wanted up to $600 for a wall mount kit. It's just a simple metal bracket so don't pay that much!
Bottom line GREAT PLASMA, GREAT PICTURE, GREAT VALUE. I love it.

Can you post where you purchased the TV and approx how much you paid. I have been looking but unable to find a reputable seller. Thanks
