"Not Bad Overall"
Pros: Contrast at 10,000:1, HMDI 1.3, Finish
Cons: Not full 1080p capatible eg. PS3 or Blu Ray or HD DVD will not work well; no Front inputs, no Monitor input, no PIP
Summary: CNET did a great job in covering the 42PX77U which is similar to the 42PX75U. Purchased this unit, 75u about a month ago, June 2007, and should have spent more time on research. However, after the purchase, that's when I tend to "experiment" and started reading related topics of interest. There were articles querying the HMDI and what version it was. I did find one article that stated that all 2007 models had the HMDI1.3 which I did confirm with the rep at Panasonic for this unit (grin..somewhat). CNET did point out the issue about the 1080p input and how the unit would play 20 minutes then the picture would disappear and then displays an error has been detected and recovered. I've asked the rep and she confirmed that it will happen since this unit is a 1080i and could not handle 1080p which to me was one of the features that I based my purchasing decision on. FYI- I don't have the luxury to purchase the Blu Ray or HD DVD to test this out yet on my unit)
. The HDTV compatibility for this unit listed: 1080p/1080i/720p on the Panasonic's website and its manual. I have considered a possible return as it's misrepresentation and should fall into the 1 year warranty of workmanship. This was a heavy investment!! CNET covered the other lacking items as listed in the Cons section. If Panasonic is reading this, hope you can offer something. E-mail me. Let's see how customer friendly and support they are with their concierge service.
