Pros Very good anti-reflective screen, profound blacks, great shadow detail. Footprint is the same as other brands 40 inch units. The silver detail is spiffy!
Cons Price is still high for a 42" set, speakers are average but most will connect to a surround system, controls take time to master, absence of a swivel base.
Summary With a background in photography and perceptual science I understand that a set must be judged by its ability to render source material. This set does a wonderful job in rendering realistic images. I have tested it with various source material including film based and live action sports. I am impressed by the picture which is lifelike and natural. The blacks and shadows are impressive. I have not had the set professionally calibrated and have chosen the THX mode. My guess is that most consumers will do the same. I hardly notice glare at all which was my biggest concern before the purchase.
Assembly was simple and adequate connections are available for most everyone's needs. Esthetically the set is pleasant to look at when not in use. The footprint is compact and the silver detailing is a nice touch. I would like to have had a swivel base. Startup is quick and the set is silent in operation. The on board speaker system is adequate.
In summary, this is a terrific television with superior picture quality. It may cost a bit more than comparable LCD technology but the image rendition is far beyond what you will see in the overly bright LCD television sets. If you are looking for an overly bright shrill picture get an LCD. If you appreciate subtlety in image rendition, accurate and lifelike images I urge you to audition this television.
Pros superb black levels
highly accurate color in THX mode
unmatched brightness for a plasma,
lower power consumption than any previous plasmas
1080P motion so no motion blur even during sports
superb contrast ratio
excellent shadow detail and gamma
Cons THX is a bit dim in brightly lit rooms but still works well in a dark room
a couple of secondary colors need adjusting but hardly noticeable
built in speakers are nothing special
Summary The best looking plasma I've seen to date
Sharp crisp picture with superb color saturation
Panasonic gets high marks for this new model!
Pros Great picture, deep blacks, excellent clarity. Smooth motion.
Cons THX mode overhyped, green line issue that may be Comcast related.
Summary Did the research, bought this TV especially bc we have a darker room. We were upgrading from a 30" Sony HDTV CRT, and it simply wows me every time it's on.Seems to be a only a problem when watching Comcast with a HDMI cable. Haven't tried component video cables. Will update after trying it with a BR player hopefully after Christmas!
Being a big Star Wars dork, I assumed that THX certified (like my Onkyo receiver) meant an instant seal of quality approval. Maybe it does, but on this TV it's just a custom picture setting. No more, no less. It's a bit dark/green for my taste, unless you're watching a historical documentary or WWII movie.
In addition, there is a thin vertical green line at the far right hand corner of the screen in THX picture mode only. After discussing at length with Panasonic, they think it is a problem between our Comcast Motorola HD box and the TV. Maybe a firmware fix, but that's really the only annoyance. We use a custom mode most of the time anyway. Great TV....

Pros Phenomenal black levels; inky with a lot of shadow detail. I'm also surprised at how accurate the THX mode is out of the box with respect to color decoding. Watching Blu-ray movies on this with my PS3 and the screen just pops.
Cons SD performance is mediocre, then again I didn't buy this display to watch SD content. I also could use an extra HDMI port or two.
Summary Blows away everything else at or near its price range. Couldn't be happier.
Pros Has anyone professionally calibrated this set and what were the benefits?
Cons Great at night, marginally dim during the day. My room is not overly bright or dark, just average, one window.
