"Firmware Update Ruined PC Connectivity"
on by TEDSHECKLERPros Beautiful TV
Cons Mini-DVI to HDMI Connectivity Failure
Summary Just like the other guy, I had the same problem. I was using it as a display from my Macbook Pro and then made the mistake of updating the firmware. After this my computer will not work on the Panasonic. Contacted Panasonic and they told me that they do not support HDMI inputs from computers. I can't believe it because it was working until I updated the firmware. They won't tell me how to downgrade the firmware and despite my pleading they refuse to help. I'm under the impression that a digital signal is a digital signal. Very disappointed in Panasonic that they would build a TV like this.

"Hazy picutre from Viera TC-P42S2"
on by mdndpmPros Lower priced than other plasma sets. Good image handling, compared to LCD type sets.
Cons Hazy/Fuzzy "halo" picture due to anti-glare screen.
Summary The previous version of this set, without the anti-glare screen, has a much better image. The new anti-glare screen on the Panasonic causes a fuzzy or hazy "halo" around the images from the TV. It also seems to enlarge room light reflections from small brighter spots into larger less bright spots on screen. Small brighter reflections are easier to deal with than big less bright reflections. It also makes pure black images less black...more of a dark charcoal gray color. I'm returning this set and going to try to find one of the previous sets without the annoying anti-glare coating.

"Doesn't work with PCs or MACs. DVI/HDMI doesn't work."
on by jefstuffPros The picture is great, but you can't connect a PC or MAC to this TV. Tried same setup that works on my 3 year old Samsung.
Samsung works like a champ, Panasonic on each of the 3 HDMI inputs displays nothing. Stick with SamsungCons Took seven contacts to Panasonic to have a tech tell me that they were receiving many calls concerning that DVI HDMI connection not working with their TVs. Then was told that TV didn't support PC/MAC connection. In the tech specs it states DVI/HDMI
Summary Stay away from Panasonic if you want to connect a PC or MAC to your TV. Panasonic initially told me that my DVI/HDMI interface adapter must not be up to spec. Funny it works with my Samsung
I tried S-video to component video , 15 pin VGA to component video nothing work. Tried new HP Elite PC with Nvidia HDMI Video card, this didn't work, this HP PC works with my old Samsung. Took seven contacts to Panasonic before a tech told me that this PC wasn't design to work with PCs or Macs. Funny it has DVI/HDMI interface defined in the manual and the setup for the HDMI ports has computer for one of the input labels. -
"Still hte best picture i see"
on by DagWeatherspoonPros I got this 2 years ago and this is still the best picture I see, compared to all my families and friends other TV's.
Cons No cons at all. unlike some comments above I think the sound on this is excellent, I was planning to get outboard speakers but decided it doesn't need them! also, the HDMI works for me, so I don't think that reviewer was doing it right.

"Good picture, lousy sound, remote is worthless"
on by wapesmanPros Good picture
Cons Sound is very tinny
Remote doesn't have universal capabilitiesSummary I would not recommend this TV. We have the 58" Viera from 3 years ago and love it. Panasonic seems to have dropped a notch in quality and features. The sound is very anemic, and the remote doesn't have universal capabiliies like it's predecessor models. So if you want to be able to control the TV, DVD and Cablebox, you'll be buying an aftermarket remote. Overall, my brand loyalty to Panasonic has been eroded with this purchase, and I'll look harder at other brands next time around.
