Pros It is very easy set up, not too heavy, has a sleek black design with textured gloss helps keep my system looking fresh (I've had to move it around a lot). The anti image retention is fabulous
Cons I didn't realize until after I made the purchase that it doesn't have a PC input! When I was shopping for a TV, that wasn't on my mind. Bu now that I have it I am disappointed. Other than that, I've got no issues with this TV.
Summary This is my first "big" purchase if you exclude computers. I got it for $699 at Best Buy and I have had no trouble with it. There was one time that I had a burn-in scare, then I found out about the anti image retention. After I ran that it still seemed like the image was there but I think I was just paranoid, because it's perfect now!
Pros When it worked the picture was nice
Cons 3" Wide black vertical bar started to appear down the center of the screen after about a week of use. Panasonic sent out a repair tech...withing 48 hours...good service. Then I had to wait another 48 hours for a new C1 board. The board was replaced an
Summary Loved it at first, good deal. It has become the bane of my existence. Shoulda just bought a crappy brand from best buy and got the extended swap out warranty.
Pros Best blacks i could find in the shopping i did I am not a perfectionist but I know what I like
Cons None so far I have had this set since March 2010 no problems
Summary I paid $699.00 at Best Buy if i needed a new set today I would do it all over again
Pros picture quality, matte screen, ease of set-up
Cons limited picture adjustments
Summary I really like the S2 series in the 50" model I purchased. Although there are not near as many user adjustments in the picture menu, the presets are decent for their stated uses. I have mine set to the picture settings suggested here on CNET by Katz and find this custom setting nice for most viewings.
I find the S2 series to be a great value for a full 1080p plasma. I did not shop for an HDTV with apps or sound in mine as I believe a TV is built for visual not audio quality. Also, I did not need the G series's added app platform as I have that with my BD player so that is a livable concession at the price point for this series. The blacks are deep and the colors nice (except for maybe the primary green as noted here), but not lacking to the point of inadequacy.
I have my S2 running through an Onkyo TX-SR707 with Klipsch Reference Series towers and a digital sub, so the TV's internal speakers are not in use. I did listen to the set for awhile w/o the receiver set-up and the quality was not outstanding, nor unlistenable. I would hope that no one buys a TV with the intent of using the internal speakers, but if you do you should be able to get by with the S2's sound if you do not expect deep enveloping effects.
Set-up was quick and easy. The on-screen interface was helpful and the included remote was laid out well. I wish it had a backlit feature, but otherwise no complaints.
I have had this set for 6 months now and have been very happy with it. This was my first HDTV purchase so I have no past expereince to draw from. I was concerned at first with the Panny black level issue from 2009, but kept up to speed on CNET and put some trust in Panasonic that they would not be silly enough to release a new series in 2010 with the same drawbacks from the previous year. Here's hoping!
Pros TV has great picture for the price. Compares favorably with mid priced lcd tvs.
Cons Picture doesn't compare to higher-end tvs like my other and favorite tv (Kuro). Uses more energy than an lcd.
Summary The other reviewer that says this doesn't work well with a pc is crazy. Either get a gpu with hdmi out or get a $15 dvi to hdmi cable. I have done both and they work great. Make sure you have set it to 0 overscan. Also, the review states that the colors are washed out. That is simply not true. The colors may not be perfectly accurate (only videophiles will notice - and then you can always go into the service menu), but due to the black level (as this is plasma) the colors are most definitely not "washed out."
