"One of the best for the money"
Pros: Excellent blacks, sharp crisp text
Cons: None so far
Summary: I have been researching and looking at Plasma T.V.'s for about a year now. Finally, I decided to take the plunge and invest in a plasma T.V. One of the motivating factors for getting a High Def T.V. was for my Xbox 360. After going to my local Best Buy and looking at the plethora of plasma T.V.'s available, I noticed that almost all of them had excellent pictures. But what I noticed was that the text on some of the plasmas was jagged, and not as sharp as I would have liked. Then I saw the Panasonic TH-42PX60U on display. It had excellent text, crisp vivid colors, and some of the deepest blacks I have ever seen on a plasma. But, upon seeing the price that Best Buy wanted, I was a little discouraged. Keep in mind, that this was the TH-42PX60U, not the 600U series. So, I went online, and started researching online plasma dealers. This is when I discovered the 42PX600U at a price that was several hundred dollars less than anything I could find in my local stores.
One of the stores that I found online was CNET certified, and had a very high customer satisfaction rating. So, with a small amount of trepidation, I took the plunge and ordered the TH-42PX600U from an online store in New Jersey. Free shipping, and no sales tax was a pretty big draw, but I was still concerned over ordering a high dollar item online. Thankfully, my worries were for naught, as I received my T.V. in excellent condition. The shipping company that delivered my T.V. installs a shock sensor on the box, so you can tell if the box has been dropped, or handled roughly.
Get a friend to help you set up this T.V.! It is pretty heavy, and the base that the T.V. sits on is very substantial. Steel construction, wide and very stable, but still looks very stylish.
The connections on the back of this T.V. are nothing short of amazing. 2 HDMI inputs, component inputs, antenna inputs, you name it, and it's on the back of this T.V. After hooking up my digital cable, and my Xbox 360, it was time to turn the T.V. on.
After a very easy initial setup, it was time to check out the picture from some HD channels. Granted, regular cable channels do look good on this T.V., but the main purpose for buying an HD T.V. is just for that...for an HD picture. The first channel I watched in High Def was my local Public Broadcasting channel in High Definition. Let me just say this...my jaw almost hit the floor when I saw how sharp and crisp the picture was. The first thing my friend who helped me set up my T.V. said was, "I never knew plasma could look this good" You could see the depth of the picture, almost as if you were looking at the picture in 3-D.
Now for the Xbox 360. Setting my Xbox 360 output to 720p, I loaded up Rainbow 6 Vegas. When the game started, I couldn't play for a while, because I was too busy being amazed at the quality of the image I was looking at. To say I was extremely impressed would be an understatement. Once I picked my jaw up off the floor, it was time for some running and gunning, to see if there was any picture lag, or blurring. After playing for about 30 minutes, I have noticed no blurring, ghosting, or any kind of picture lag at all on this T.V.
In conclusion, I could not be any happier with this T.V. High Definition broadcasts look absolutely amazing on this T.V., and High Def gaming is no problem at all either. To get the most out of this T.V., you might consider changing some of the picture settings to maximize T.V. life, and get the best picture image possible. For this, I went to a website that reviews all High Def. T.V.'s, and gives recommendations for setting up your picture. These are the setting that I have found most recommended for the Panasonic TH-42PX600U:
Picture Mode Standard
Picture +22
Brightness +8
Color -1
Tint -4
Sharpness -14
Color Temperature Warm
Enhanced Black Level Off

Who did you buy your TV from? I know they are from New Jersey. I have never bought anything this expensive over the internet. I liked what you said about your shipper.
