    Pros: Proven name

Cons: No improvement over last year, design, picture quality

Summary: Panasonic really didn't impress me to much with this years model. Working at Circuit City I feel that I have some room to say how I feel about Panasonic's latest addition to the plasma market. I, in addition to my co-workers feel this model is sub-par to other models on the market. I would gladly choose the newer Samsung models (not to mention the new Samsung DLP that's 1080p for less than the TH42PX50U) or even last years Hitachi. The only real addition to the Panasonic I can see is the SD slot... who cares. On top of that I think the picture quality has gotten worse. In short I feel like Panasonic relied to much on last years model and will end up losing the battle for the plasma market.

first off im sorry you work for circuit city seeing there going bankrupt and all.But i would agree samsung seems to have a better picture until you get that really fast movement and the whole panel blurrs out and second the pixels are way to big and noticeable in every seen and third of all 7 out of 10 samsungs come back defective. So i think you should go back and really compare these two again.and just some food for thought no plasma in the industry compares to a pioneer plasma at all they have the best cell structure and there the only company that uses only one pain of glass so less glare and no double imaging so you want the best pioneer you want second best panasonic and third samsung dont read all the specs compare right and this is coming from someone who has ben in the tv sales buisness for 10 years and i work for a real company magnolia home theater.

Have you ever spoke with a knowledgeable salesperson working at Fry's, Circuit City, Best Buy, etc? In fact, I just read an article on MSNBC on how poorly trained most of these folks are when it comes to HDTVs.

I bought my TV at Best Buy didn't ask the guy didn't know anything about cables, plasmas, and LCD's. I think its better to know people that own it and use it for there personal day-to-day use. <br><br><br><br>Thanks but no thanks.

...and they don't make you read a manual which is what you should have done with this TV. The default picture mode is set to Vivid, which does not produce a good picture (as does not turning the power on). Once you set the mode to Standard, you will understand how important the manual is.

While in Circuit City, on two separate instances I have overheard the same bs line from a CC salesman given to other customers.<br>"Plasmas only last a few years, and then they are gone!" these salesmen said. Figure it out. Plasmas now have a rated life of 60,000 hours, while the $350-a-pop projector lamps for DLP and LCD projection HDTVs only last a rated 2,000 hours!!!!!!<br>Guess who wants to move those projection sets and sell those lamps?? DO NOT buy projection HDTVS!!!. Go to a real electronics store and get an opinion. Read<br>Consumer Reports about HDTV projections sets. DO NOT believe these salespersons, who have obviously been told to push projection and of course 1080p projection HDTVs!!

Not to completely discount CC and BB and other retailers but I don't think they are a very reputable source at all. For one they have an agenda, so they can rarely be trusted. Also I would like to see review from a reputable online source giving this model a negative review (I have yet to find one). Aside from the guy from BB I don't see any evidence in favor of this negative review. I've seen this TV in my local BB and I thought it looked great even at the retailers display settings.

You can't trust the opinion of a Circuit City employee, who is only trying to sell crappier models to clear their inventory. The Panasonic plasma is beautiful, to say that someone should buy last year's DLP model is someone that can't be trusted for an honest opinion. I dare anyone to view this plasma against any DLP from all angles and make your opinion that way. This TV is beautiful and I know I made the right purchase.

hmmm, can't keep the product in stock to sell it so better diss it and recommend people buy something else. Every reputable review has said this model is as good as if not better than last year's model. Get a clue.

...I don't trust Circuit City opinions. You obviously don't have any idea what you are talking about. When the pros weigh in with their opinions, and rate this TV at or near the top of the plasma category, which is regarded as stronger than other technologies, you only discredit yourself with a review like this. A DLP or the Hitachi over this? I think you need a new job!
