"Phenomenal picture at a reasonable price"
Pros: Great picture, intuitive menus, and a rich feature set
Cons: Gray vertical bars on 4:3 content would be less distracting if black; side speakers are merely adequate
Summary: Have been enjoying this television for about a month now, and continue to be very impressed. Am using HDMI inputs for both the DVD player and digital cable, and both offer amazing picture, esp. the HD cable content. I've also set up a PC output so I can browse the web through wireless mouse and keyboard, and the PC image is crisp, clean, and enormous. So far this has delivered nothing but pleasure.
I'm struggling to find reasons to complain.
Am still watching plenty of 4:3 content (e.g. cable news), and generally prefer to preserve the aspect ratio; as with many TVs, this comes with gray vertical bars on either side of the picture. These bother me less than some persons, but an option to switch these to black would be great. For the 600U though, these are always gray.
But overall this is an amazing television with no unpleasant surprises. Picked this up the last week of May from the Magnolia Home Theater just south of San Francisco (in Colma), and paid $3898.

Look in the "setup" menu, there's an option for black/dark/med & bright side bars. You shouldn't view 4:3 w/ side bars for extended periods anyway or risk burn-in. Just use "Just" option, as it doesn't stretch or distort much at all. If you must have side bars, keep the bright grey, as they're much better for preventing burn in.

Please try ZOOM1,2 & 3 for content to fill entire screen with a bit of sacrifice on the picture quality.
