"Very Good digital standard definition picture and Wow! quality in DVD and HD"
Pros: Excellent picture quality for this screen size.
Cons: Price. Average Remote. Could use few more bells and whistles.
Summary: I replaced my Sharp Aquos 37 inch LCD with the Panasonic TH65PX600U in preparation for SuperBowl 2007. First, the very look on the wall is strikingly handsome. Connected it to Verizon Fios signal and watching channels like Disney and SoapNet in standard definition were great(I could see hair sticking out from the stub of the male character, for example). One good thing is that my kids don't sit close to the TV anymore. We now sit at 10-12 feet from the set. Watching in high-def (1080i output from the Fios set-top box) was jaw dropping, esp. channels like Discovery and HD Net. At the distance where I sit, I don't think even a 1080p source would look any better. I had an opportunity to see a blu-ray demo disk on this set at Best Buy - it was unbelievably film-like; however, I was watching from 5 ft. I love the settings as done by the factory - i.e. maximum contrast with Vivid color setting. I don't know if tweaking with AV essentials or AVIA is going to please my eyes or my brain - I think the latter! Now for the cons: 1. Pricey, but most 65-in flat panel displays are right now. Also, don't forget it has a native resolution of 1080p which is something new for plasmas. 2. You can't specify the resolution on the set. For example, you can't watch a 480p DVD at 1080i res. if you wish to. No upconversion is done by the set. I will wait for later this year when blu-ray/HD-DVD combo devices are on the market. They will upconvert my DVDs. 3. The vertical fill on screen is not available if you use HDMI connection. This is a limitation esp. for Plasma TVs because all material is not 1.78:1 aspect ratio and you don't want to watch black stripes/bars on any side of TV for prolonged time for fear of burn-in or after image. Conclusion: While not considered a value plasma this product has the ability to transform your living room into a quality home theater. And I would not even venture to compare this to Pioneer ProFHD1 since you should not compare a 65" screen to a 50" screen(apples & oranges).
