"A truly remarkable television!"
Pros: The TH-65Z850U is presents an incredible picture, is fully scalable for future technology, integrates with multiple manufacturers, sets up easily and takes over a room like no other television.
Cons: The stand is not included with purchase and is an expensive, unanticipated purchase that may eat into your A/V budget.
Summary: I have been shopping for a large (greater than 60 inch) plasma system for years - waiting for the perfect combination of the aforementioned qualities before making this purchase. I have owned a Panasonic Onyx 50" plasma display for two years and have been thoroughly pleased with every aspect of it since day one. Yet because the Onyx has been a bedroom television from the beginning it has received significantly less usage than would the family room Hitachi Ultravision that the TH-65Z850U replaces. Despite no reason other than hype heard over the past 24 months about the tremendous technological advances anticipated from the likes of Pioneer, Runco and Fujitsu I expected to go a route other than the Panasonic when purchasing the larger plasma for every day family use. Most notably I made extensive comparisons to the Pioneer Elite Kuro Pro151-FD (and its predecessor Pro -150FD) 60" set as it has received very encouraging reviews. Plus, I recently purchased the Pioneer Elite A/V receiver (SC-07) and the Pioneer Elite BD player (BDP-05 FD) and have been told repeatedly that performance and connectivity is better with and between all Pioneer Elite equipment. If you are being told this same information by salespeople wishing to sell the Pioneer Elite plasma, please note that they are absolutely wrong.
As mentioned, I have been looking for some time to purchase the larger system, hoping that one of the top manufacturers would release a 70-80" plasma that offered a high quality picture at a reasonable price point. To date that system does not exist. I therefore decided to move forward with a 60+ " plasma for normal television and a 120" hidden drop down screen and HD projector for "movie night." We have now owned the TH-65Z850U for close to one month and could not be happier with our decision. With new bells and whistles discovered almost daily, and the connection capabilities to integrate with our video server, security system and other household electronics, the TH-65Z850U is poised to sustain our family television needs for many years to come. In short it was well worth the wait.

good review- why did you choose the TH-65Z850U over the Pro-151-FD (other than size)?
