"52" of solid product that looks and sounds wonderful" on by jeffdenio
Pros: Excellent picture regardless of lighting conditions. Initial setup is easily accomplished and making changes to the settings is quick and straight forward. Numerous input and output connections.
Cons: Remote is very light weight and lacks adequate direct feature access. The quick access channel selector blocks out a good portion of the screen.
Summary: This is my first flat panel TV and I am elated with the quality of the product. I spent several hours playing with all the features and settings and then easily updated the firmware via the USB connection. The setup was nearly automatic as it asked my preferences to split screen choices and then configured the settings based upon those choices.
The color, clarity and sound are incredible on High Def cable channels. The regular digital channels look good, but the HD programming is amazing. The HD channels are unbelievably crisp and easy on the eyes regardless of the lighting in the room. The 52 inch screen seems to fill the room with action or ambiance. My dog even growls at, and chases, the life-size animals on the screen, something he rarely did with the old TV. After using the TV for a month now, I've watched it in complete darkness and under bright lighting. In both situations the picture has been very impressive. I have very rarely noticed any blurring or ghosting. Although I was initially hesitant about turning the volume up, I now comfortably turn it up to 65 for my mother to hear without any concerns about the speakers or the sound quality suffering.
The remote is a bit of a disappointment. I'm sure it is adequately built, but it feels too light in my hands, almost fragile. More importantly, there is no backlight so I occasionally misjudge the button locations and end up fumbling with the remote in the dark. The only actual problem I've encountered with the TV is that, even after reprogramming, the automatic clock feature is off by one time zone despite the daylight savings feature being enabled. Big deal; I pretend I live in Nova Scotia.
Overall I am extremely satisfied and pleased with the quality of the TV and the experience it has provided me up to this point. -

I took the day off work they called and told me they would not be coming because they know what part they need to fix it and will order the part. They called back 10 days later and said the part is on back order and maybe in in about 45 days.I called back and asked for a refund on a new tv and was told "sorry but you have to just wait" so I have had this tv for 80 days it worked for 23 I missed all of the olympics and will miss the start of football. "HDTV Is Great, Must Read" on by deaofly
Pros: HDTV that supports 480i/p 720p 1080i/p, Great picture for the price, Easy hook up to my PS3, Blu-ray's look just stunning. Easy hook up to my PC, firmware software updates help keep this Tv with great features. Must read my Bottom Line
Cons: Channles can take a sec or 2 when flip through
Summary: I got this TV Last year on November 2007 on Thanksgiving day from a Super Wal-Mart. I have read some others reveiws about the tv andim sadden about there problem with only having there set for only 23 days and it stopped working. Again 1 whole year has gone by and nothing is wrong with my set. You can go to Philips.com and do a firmware software update on the TV. Thats fantastic as the tv works a little faster then when i 1st got it. I have a PS3 and with a HDMI port my Blu-rays just blow it away. The PS3 games are realistic. Surround sound is great on the TV but I have a 5.1 system so i keep the tv's audio turn all the way down. The tv only has a refreash rate of 60hz instead of 120hz but you can ask any1 and a tv with 120hz almost cost you double the price. Its a TV not a PC monitor, but you can still use it as 1 like i have. I keep my TV hooked up to a Monster Surge protecter so i don't have to worry about Storms or power surges frying my TV. I got rid of my Comcast HD-DVR, and cable looked great as well accept for the analog channles 2-69, thank god for the reqiured Digital transaction in Feb 2009. but the digital looked great like dvds and the HD channles were in 720p or 1080i, depends on whitch you set it to, and they looked fantastic. Now I just watch regular channles over the air and with a HD antanna I get all the diggital channles in with ease. 1 good feature is that the TV will always save and search for new channles. but like me you can also delete/bloock the old analog channles and just keep the digital channles when you flip through to see whats on. trust me when they say, once you go HD you never go back cuz it just true. Im sorry for the other 2 who have had bad problems with there TVS but why didn't they take it back to the store??? I got the 1 year warrenty thruogh Wal-Mart and if it was me, I would have taken it back ang got a new 1. You can trust what some people say on reviews. If you have a queastions about this TV and want some advice/help feel free to email me at deaofly@yahoo.com.

"Another Bad Set and Poor Service" on by sidewaze
Pros: Great looking picture when it worked
Cons: Only worked for 6 Mo.
Summary: This TV had a beautiful picture for 6 months then we couldn't get it to turn on at all. Philips authorized service company took it back to their shop and ordered the part. The part has already been on backorder for a month prior. Nobody in Philips support will even attempt to find out when, or even if the part will arrive. We must wait 2 months from the time that I called them before they will even consider a replacement set. Now thats customer service. Spend your money elsewhere.

"Lots of inputs and outputs" on by Transparency
Pros: inexpensive, large screen, ease of use
Cons: NO VARIABLE LINE OUTPUT, no PIP, no universal remote
Summary: This is my first tv bigger than my 5 year old 27" tube. HD channels are great. I bought this TV at Costco on a coupon so I paid $1800. I limited my choice of seller to Costco for a few reasons. Costco adds an extra year. I got American Express and they added an extra year for a total warranty of 3 years. And if I don't like it, I can return it within 3 months.
I wanted to put my PC into the HDMI plug and have gotten an adaptor and the PC looks great. I have ground hum problems with my audio out so I bought this one because it has coaxial digital in as well as out. If your computer is newer with HDMI this would not be a factor.
With three HDMI connections, two RGB (one with s-video) + Audio and one composite video + audio connections on the back and composite/s-video + audio and USB on the side you can connect everything you own.
Previously my only experience with standard def picture on a wide screen tv was in bars and resturants where they usually have the square picture stretched wide. This tv has several ways to handle the picture including an automatic setting that chooses the best for that picture format. My only problem is that it can change size from scene to scene within a couple of minutes. So an outdoor scene is stretched outside of the frame (superzoom) and the next indoor picture is stretched only sideways to fill the screen and make the people look wide. I choose to change this manually.
In the store the blu ray demo looked great but I don't have any money left for one. My DVDs look great, better than on the old screen.
One thing about upconverting: the TV is an upconverting device. If you have a good TV then you don't need a special upconverting player. I am using the RGB + audio from my DVD and it looks great.
Bottom line: I have a great second computer monitor and a great tv for HD programming. For regular programming, if you don't mind a square picture on a wide screen tv, it looks great, better than my old tv.
