"Very good pictures on SD and HDTV"
Pros: Picture qualities and 1080p resolutions
Cons: Sound could be better and heat could be reduced
Summary: Excellent pictures in SD and HDTV comparing to my 3 yrs old 720p Sony LCD projector. It's worth to pay $800-$1000 over the 720p Pio 5080 to have 1080p resolution. No SDE when standing few feet away from the TV (I hate this SDE on my 720p Sony), 1080p makes the pictures smoother and more refine. Blacks and shadowing is very good with this Plasma. I hooked up a subwoofer to the TV to make the sound a bit warmer for the bass. Hopefully, few years down the road, Pioneer can now focus on making plasma more energy efficient (Panasonic is moving to more energy efficient for its future plasma models). The current 5010fd is a bit warmer than my 720p Sony when standing next to it
Overall, I'm satisfied with the TV. I recommend to take the 1080p over 720p regardless of the viewing distance and Plasma (glass screen) over LCD (plastic screen), with plasma the pictures are a bit lively and cinematic than LCD
