"Cant believe the difference." on by chugawoo
Pros: Inputs, HDMI, swivel stand, Learning remote Etc..
Cons: none yet, but ill find em and update
Summary: I just returned my Samsung hpp4261 yesterday due to what they call a defective set.I call it crappy workmanship. I learned my lesson, "buy Japanese". Anyway, when I walked in this pioneer was set up next to the Samsung I just returned. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. I would have bought the editors choice panasonic but they didnt carry the model and had my money already. So I took your advice and got the next best thing, Pioneer. I'm writing this because after only about an hour or so of playing with the remote ans set at the store, I knew this blew away most of the competition. The only othe contender there was Sony, But he wouldnt budge on the price.I believe this is a great set, however, I am comparing it to Samsung, who should stick to cellphones.
Updated
2nd day with 4350. So far, this is a much better set than the Samsung.Faults thus far, minor false contouring(edges). Also, no input channel labels, Learner remote only works pioneer receivers. Pros are as follows: excellent scaling 4:3 to 16:9, with a super zoom mode, clarity and color accuracy.I will continue to update. I will add if it wasnt for the CNET staff I would still have a samsung. MAx you should pay for this set is $3999 and Buy The warranty.Updated
I had sparkles while watcing my sat box. It looked like stars that flashed all over the screen periodically. I plugged the sat in cable to the surge protector for grounding, and ran a new cable to from the surge to the sat box. So far no sparkles and a little cleare picture too. I will continue to update as I fine tune this set.Updated
I have the set over 1 month now. I believe these plasmas get better with time. The picture seems to have gotton better, Colors look better and overall clarity is superb. HOWEVER,DO NOT I MEAN DO NOT PLAY VIDEO GAMES ON THIS SET.I can only speak for the pioneer when i say this. I played my xbox for about an hour. I was in the settings menu which you xbox guys know is all green/black. I then played a game or two and went back to HD directtv channels. The whole gaming was just over an hour. I saw a green spot left from the settings menu in the bottom right hand corner which gradually faded after an hour. Threat of burnin is real. I will now play games on my lcd monitor only. I had a crt tube for 6 years they say those are at risk to. I played 1 month of games on that every day and saw nothing. So plasma buyer beware. Nevertheless, this is a fantastic set for everything else. good luckUpdated
Just after the 2 month barrier, and what was a $400 GREAT calibration, 2 blue vertical bars popped up on the screen. Now I don't know what happened, but the service tech said it was defective. Well, if you read my post on the Samsung hpp4261, you will find that this is my 2nd defective plasma in 3 months. The store is paid but I have no tv. Anyway, I am changing over to LCD rear projection. I will be getting the Sony kde-42we655 and about 1/2 my money back.I still think this Pioneer is great( when working properly), but after 2 plasma issues with seperate Manufacturers I am done.Updated
You are correct.; I would give the Pioneer a lower score for sure. Mostly, because of the nuisance it was. Nevertheless, the New Sony is in my opinion just as good. Even better with calibration. Best advice I can give, is to STAY AWAY FROM PLASMA! It just hurts more when something that expensive breaks, and service techs look dazed when they see the problem. They can't fix em!!!!!!!! -
"Great Picture in HD, Crystal Clear, less glare than 4340" on by discodoug1
Pros: Easy install, Looks Like the "Elite" model w/o $
Cons: Difficulty in getting the remote to Learn HD Box & DVD Player
Summary: It took 90 days to make the decision as to
which Plasma TV to put in our new addition.
Finally decided on the new Pio 4350HD. This
was absolutely the right decision. The
Picture quality is wonderful. The Cosmetics
of the 4350 are second to none. I am not
a techno guy, but I know what I like in a
TV and the 4350 covers all the bases and is representative of known Pioneer quality.
However, be very careful in reference as
to where you purchase the 4350. If you
purchase from an internet provider,Beware".
There are only 6 authorized internet dealers
for Pioneer. Should you decide to purchase
on the internet from anyone other than a
B&M location, Pioneer will not honor the
warranty. Received excellent service and
follow-up from my internet source "Satellite
& Sound".
Enjoy the 4350HD.

"Excellent Picture Quality; Lots of Inputs" on by mpjohnst
Pros: Great combination of colors, shadow-detail and black level. Four inputs (2 HDMI) and excellent styling
Cons: Fan on media receiever runs continuously
Summary: I helped my brother in law install this set recently and the picture quality is outstanding. Don't believe all the hype about needing the absolute lowest black level. People think that if a set doesn't have a good black level dark movies will be un-watchable... this is only partly true. Some sets have great black level but do it only by crushing all the low level detail into black. Without good shadow detail as well, you get one big mess of a black blob. The Pio does a great job with low black levels (maybe not as low as the Panny) but adds better shadow detail giving the picture a much more believable, 3D effect. Couple that with Pios trademark colors, classy piano black styling and 4 inputs and you've got a winner.
Not many cons to speak of but I did notice that the fan media receiver runs continuously, even in standby mode. I'm not sure if this was do to the setup (heat build up?) but luckily it wasn't obtrusive. It's kind of a low whirl but audible non-the-less. Once we put it in a stereo cabinate (well ventilated) with a closed front it became a non-issue. The only other con I can think of is that it is unclear if the media receiver can pass 5.1 audio from it's HDMI inputs to it's optical output. I'm not saying it won't, there is just not enough testing on the forum I read to say either way. Regardless it would be nice if it could but not really an issue if it couldn't.
Enjoy the set, it's really best of class for the price. -
"Very bright, feature rich, low glare plasma screen" on by ColdBrew
Pros: very bright, tons of input types, DRE, low glare, separate media box for cleaner installs, 43 inch instead of typical 42 inch
Cons: besides firewire and VGA ports, only 4 inputs
Summary: I can't imagine a better all around plasma screen in this size range.
I haven't notice any of the buzzing described in the review. The only sound I hear is the fan from the media box that is more than quite enough.
I didn't notice the Panasonics looking any better in the black levels when I compared them but I'm no expert.
The DRE feature that emphasizes bright and dark sections of the picture really make the picture look better. Especially for my Xbox games which if supported can be played at 480p, 720p, or 1080i.
We have this screen in the bedroom right next to two large windows and have no problem with see the TV or glare. I have been very impressed.
I haven’t hooked my PC to it yet so I can’t comment on the VGA port.
The only down side I see so far is the fact that all those ports can only be used with a total of 4 inputs (not counting VGA and firewire). Thankfully that is enough for me but it would have been better to be able to use more of them at the same time. -
"Super TV Awesome Picture" on by sommasal
Pros: Picture, Connectivity, Features
Cons: Price, Maybe
Summary: I looked at the 4350 last year, but waited for the 4360.
I was torn between the Panasonic, Hitachi Ultra Director's & Pioneer, and went with the Pioneer after I had the Best Buy guy put the Panasonic next to the Pioneer.
Both were great, but what sold me on the Pioneer was the connectivity options and the amazing picture. Clear, bold colors without oversaturation and great brightness.
They were close but I thought the new Pioneer was superior. I paid $3500 for the unit.
