Cons: none yet, but ill find em and update
Summary: I just returned my Samsung hpp4261 yesterday due to what they call a defective set.I call it crappy workmanship. I learned my lesson, "buy Japanese". Anyway, when I walked in this pioneer was set up next to the Samsung I just returned. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. I would have bought the editors choice panasonic but they didnt carry the model and had my money already. So I took your advice and got the next best thing, Pioneer. I'm writing this because after only about an hour or so of playing with the remote ans set at the store, I knew this blew away most of the competition. The only othe contender there was Sony, But he wouldnt budge on the price.I believe this is a great set, however, I am comparing it to Samsung, who should stick to cellphones.Updated
2nd day with 4350. So far, this is a much better set than the Samsung.Faults thus far, minor false contouring(edges). Also, no input channel labels, Learner remote only works pioneer receivers. Pros are as follows: excellent scaling 4:3 to 16:9, with a super zoom mode, clarity and color accuracy.I will continue to update. I will add if it wasnt for the CNET staff I would still have a samsung. MAx you should pay for this set is $3999 and Buy The warranty.Updated
I had sparkles while watcing my sat box. It looked like stars that flashed all over the screen periodically. I plugged the sat in cable to the surge protector for grounding, and ran a new cable to from the surge to the sat box. So far no sparkles and a little cleare picture too. I will continue to update as I fine tune this set.Updated
I have the set over 1 month now. I believe these plasmas get better with time. The picture seems to have gotton better, Colors look better and overall clarity is superb. HOWEVER,DO NOT I MEAN DO NOT PLAY VIDEO GAMES ON THIS SET.I can only speak for the pioneer when i say this. I played my xbox for about an hour. I was in the settings menu which you xbox guys know is all green/black. I then played a game or two and went back to HD directtv channels. The whole gaming was just over an hour. I saw a green spot left from the settings menu in the bottom right hand corner which gradually faded after an hour. Threat of burnin is real. I will now play games on my lcd monitor only. I had a crt tube for 6 years they say those are at risk to. I played 1 month of games on that every day and saw nothing. So plasma buyer beware. Nevertheless, this is a fantastic set for everything else. good luckUpdated
Just after the 2 month barrier, and what was a $400 GREAT calibration, 2 blue vertical bars popped up on the screen. Now I don't know what happened, but the service tech said it was defective. Well, if you read my post on the Samsung hpp4261, you will find that this is my 2nd defective plasma in 3 months. The store is paid but I have no tv. Anyway, I am changing over to LCD rear projection. I will be getting the Sony kde-42we655 and about 1/2 my money back.I still think this Pioneer is great( when working properly), but after 2 plasma issues with seperate Manufacturers I am done.Updated
You are correct.; I would give the Pioneer a lower score for sure. Mostly, because of the nuisance it was. Nevertheless, the New Sony is in my opinion just as good. Even better with calibration. Best advice I can give, is to STAY AWAY FROM PLASMA! It just hurts more when something that expensive breaks, and service techs look dazed when they see the problem. They can't fix em!!!!!!!!
