"Not worth the money!" on by PlasmaDealer

Pros: Nice looking - better blacks then past models

    Cons: Price - colors overblown

Summary: Don't get me wrong! Pioneer makes a nice unit. The price is just way to high. The other problem is the colors are overblown and very unnatural. Some people love the colors, I find them very fake. Pioneers has improved the black over past models and are the second best in blacks. The best blacks belong to Panasonic. For the money Panasonic is the best plasma on the market. Hard to find in 50" size right now but worth the wait. I personally own four Panasonic's and love them. I have installed all brands of plasma and Panasonic and Pioneer are the top two.

"Out of this World" on by Murtaza1000

    Pros: Great Picture. Killing Looks

Cons: Doesn't have card slot for Digital Pictures

Summary: What a picture. HD picture is just unbelievable. I compared it with sony and sony doesn't even come close. Iam using DVD Player (sony) with HD upconversion with HDMI cable and picture is just the BEST. Even non HD picture with S-Video is also very good. Better then most plasmas in the market. I have yet to see the off air hd channels. Blacks are superb and colors are brighter than life. Looks are awesome. Stylish, sleek, piano black. Very Classy. Media Receiver is very handy and easy to use. The only thing which is missing is the ability to watch digital pictures on it, but still it doesn't take any point away.

"excellent picture, features, and good sound" on by bellinge

Pros: one of the best overall sets out there

Cons: minor issues with some features

Summary: First of all, there is one thing in the C-Net review that is not true, at least with my set and my cable system. Most of the aspect ratio (picture shape) functions DO work in high def, at least at my house. Only the cinema function (the best for viewing 4:3 pictures without sidebards) doesn't work in high def. The Pioneer also allows you to set sidebars on 4:3 pictures to copy part of the main picture onto the sidebars. This looks awful, but has the advantage of discouraging almost anyone from watching the TV with a narrow picture, as well as preventing uneven wear for those few who might. That's the other thing that doesn't work in high def.

Overall, this set has fantastic color reproduction, especially after turning off the "dynamic" display mode and turning the color temperature to low as c-net suggests. Black levels are as good as advertised, and even when toned down the colors really pop. It also has very good sound quality, especially if you can use the subwoofer output. I haven't figured out whether I like the 2:3 or 3:3 pulldown option better, or whether a normal person like me could ever tell the difference. The black levels are very good with at least decent detail in the dark scenes. It also has plenty of brightness to spare if you need it for a bright room.

I'm giving it a 9 because I wish I could set the automatic aspect ratio setting to cinema rather than wide for normal def, and because I do see some 'judder' on motion scenes. However, it is a superior set that I highly recommend, IF purchased from a Pioneer authorized dealer.

"A fantastic choice!" on by songyop

Pros: Great colors, good connectivity options, great PC display

    Cons: Skimpy remote control

Summary: This TV is simply excellent!
To add to other earlier good comments, this TV displays nice 1024 x 768 PC screen display very nicely. Color adjustment options are quite comprehensive and flexible. Colors are beautiful. Even regular analog TV signal looks quite acceptable, although the quality varies from channel to channel. It's a great looking TV as well, even when the screen is turned off!

"It wows me everytime i turn it on" on by SuttoXXX

    Pros: Absolutely stunning picture quality

Cons: a little expensive and some minor input problems with the media receiver

Summary: Picked up this set a few days and ago after months of researching plasmas, and after watching almost constantly, I'm ready to write my short but sweet review. First off, this set has the best picture quality of any 42 or 43" plasma out there at the moment. NO question about it. The Panasonic comes close (i purchased the Panasonic TH-42PX50U first, returned it and got the pioneer), but in the end there is clear difference. I really enjoy the media receiver as I can run all of my video sources through it and get top quality picture (DVD player, Xbox 360, Tivo, and over the air HD) Blacks are very deep and the color is extremely accurate. Out of the box, the colors are a little exaggerated (some people LOVE this), but after some tweaking, I was able to get the picture perfect for my tastes. Football and Xbox 360 are absolutely incredible and DVDs in 480p look fantastic. I also own the Dell 32" LCD and the Pioneer set definitely has better picture. Although I should point out that the Dell does have excellent picutre. The price was a bit more than I wanted to pay (got it at an authorized Pioneer dealer in Austin for 3600), but well worth it in the end knowing I got the best 42/43" plasma out there. I have no problem paying for quality. In summation, if you have no problem paying a bit for more better quality, get this set. If you wanted to save a few hundred and get an inferior picture, go with the panasonic Panasonic TH-42PX50U.
