"Great Plasma Television" on by Ibis60cm
Pros: Awesome Picture. Great Looking.
Cons: None At This Time
Summary: This was my first plasma so I was hesitant about dropping $5,000 on a T.V. Originally order the Dell Plasma but after reading the reviews about that T.V. on this site I called Dell and worked it out with them to return the set by refusing shipment. Now on to the Pioneer. The assembly instructions and T.V. setup looked very intimidating. It was very easy. Very little tweaking was needed to the set after setup even though this has one of the bigger remotes I've seen. The remote is very easy to use and all your adjustments are made through it. The C-Nets editors review on this set was a big help in making some adjustments for the T.V. I did alot of research on this set and the Panasonic 50" sets and the Pioneer just fit my needs. The media center that comes with this set has plenty of inputs including one for a Cable Card. This set looks great on or off. Ordering something this big online made me very nervous but the cheapest I could find this set in my area was $6,999. The set with shipping and a 3 year extended warrenty was only $5,375 online. If you do order this set online just make sure you check out how reputable the site is. You can save alot of money but you can also lose it. I saw this T.V. even cheaper than I bought it for but after researching their sites and reading reviews about them I steered clear. Sometimes cheap isn't always better. Any way if your looking for a great 50" plasma Pioneer is the one to get.

"Great 50" Plasma for the Price" on by jerrywash
Pros: HD picture from DVD and Satellite HDIMI connections is awesome. Paid $4500 online with free shipping
Cons: Price......(Not bad though), longer media cables for the receiver (Pioneer proprietary) are pricey. Minor glare from house lamps
Summary: Debated for a while over this model and the Panasonic TH-50PHD7UY.....Seen it and saw great reviews.....Both looks great....but the big downer was the inputs. To get the same inputs as the Pioneer Receiver the price would have been about 5500. I use the extra cash to get a HD DVD player and HD TIvo which works out great since I have 2 HDMI connection. Don't think you can go wrong with either TV but the 5050 was definetly a great buy for me.

"Great Picture" on by DaveS.
Pros: Beautiful HD color and resolution
Cons: Blacks tend to block up unless brightness is turned up
Summary: Paid $4800 with free shipping from a Pioneer authorized internet dealer offering a $500 rebate. Net cost $4300. Also purchased HD receiver from Dish Network. Used Sound & Vision Home Theater Tune-up to set contrast, brightness, color, tint, and sharpness. Factory settings were very close but I had to crank up the brightness to get the detail I wanted in the blacks. There are 5 picture options. I used one with the higher brightness setting and one with the Sound & Vision tune-up settings and left the other three at the factory settings. I use supplied component color cable and optical sound cable for connections to DVD ,satelite receiver and AV receiver.
After stepping up from a 32 inch Sony, the 50 inch screen really shows up the low resolution of regular 480i TV.
The black frame around the screen looks great but I don't understand why the stand for the screen is silver rather than black.
The controller is pretty big and easy to use but I've replaced it with a Harmony universal remote which controls AV receiver, Dish receiver, and the TV.
I considered the Panasonic but chose this set because of the HDMI inputs and built in tuner. I don't use them now but didn't like the idea of having to buy them separately for the Panasonic. There are also inputs for a computer which I haven't tried yet.
All-in-all, I spent a lot of time looking for the right set that I could use for many years. The Pioneer fits the bill with a beautiful picture and lots of flexible inputs. -
"Stunning when it's on, stunning when it's off" on by cincinnati
Pros: Simply one of the best pictures on a plasma set I've ever seen; Relatively easy to set-up,
Cons: A little slow reading and adjusting to various input signals (i.e. regular vs. high-def)
Summary: Went in to buy the Panasonic TH-50PX50U which is a great set. Looking at the Pioneer and Panasonic side-by-side however, there was no comparison. The picture quality was sharper and more vivid on the Pioneer and from an aesthetic standpoint, it was the best looking set by far. Set-up was quicker and easier than I expected although that was partly because I elected to stay with many of the factory default settings. It also gets a little tricky synching the montior's settings (aspect ratios) with those offered by the system from my cable company (Time Warner, some of which are redundant.

"Looks Great On or Off." on by ATS
Pros: The glossy black frame accentuates a movie in a dimmley lit room.
Cons: Price, but it is worth it.
Summary: Great picture quality. Love the design.
