"Amazing HTDV set" on by s_vayner
Pros: Clear and Detailed Picture, Many inputs, HDTV tuner.
Cons: None so Far.
Summary: I've been using this TV for almost 2 weeks now, and I have to say I am very impressed. HDTV picture is great the color reproduction is very good and clarity and detail is just unbelievable. Though, you might want to turn down color saturation out of the box or the picture might look a bit cartoonish. I was deciding between Samsung and Panasonic so I went to BestBuy and looked at HP-R4252 (which is a previous 42 inch model but it uses the same type of panel) and Panasonic side by side and they looked identical in terms of the picture but Samsung won me over due to the number of inputs provided and built in HDTV tuner which allows you can pick up HDTV channels off an antenna without additional investment in a decoder. I am a bit skeptical about 10,000:1 contrast ratio but then I wouldn't know how it would look like anyway. Nonetheless, blacks are deep and very clear and screen is very bright even at 50% brightness and contrast. Also you can adjust almost any color individually through the menu to get a desired picture. I kept most of the colors at default 50% and lowered red and green to 40% to get a picture that I like. The only problem now is that I don’t want to watch regular channels anymore. I did my research and I could not find a better HDTV even for twice its the price. Overall this is a spectacular HDTV and it should be on the top of your HDTV shopping list.

"Absolutely Fabulous!" on by deonb
Pros: Fast & responsive menus, great colours, love the burn in prevention
Cons: Could use a second HDMI input
Summary: This is the happiest I've been with a new set (and I upgrade yearly).
The menu system is intuitive & fast! Not sluggish & grainy like the Panasonic.
The exterior looks much better than the Panasonic in my opinion.
Picture quality is fabulous. I use DirecTv with an HDMI 1080i input. The colours on this device are simply astonishing. Blacks are black, yet the other colours are vivid! I love the individual controls you have over the color.
Only thing more I could want is a second HDMI input.
This is otherwise the best Plasma on the market after the Pioneer Elite 61" (at 3 times the price).
Way to go Samsung! -
"Garbage, Picture Quality is horrible thanks to DNIe" on by videoholic
Pros: Multiple inputs, HDMI. Built in Tuner.
Cons: Horrible picture, Lots of Pasterization. Wrong Colors. DNIe DNIe DNIe!!!
Summary: I had this TV for more than 3 months. I wish I had returned it while I had the chance DNIe makes the picture look so bad. People faces look terrible with blotches of gray, pink, and sometimes green, there is so much pasterisation in the picture that some material is just unwatchable. Dark scenes have green tint and look smeared. For example some closeup scenes in LORT look really bad and this is not a low cost production dvd. Not even HDTV channels look good. The only time this tv looks ok is when there are no people in the picture because its hard to compare picture to the real life and what the true colors should be. And you can forget about Standard Definition material, you can't even look at it. DNIe is the reason for all of the problems it ovedrives the contrast and overmphasises colors additionally it crushes detail in dark areas. There is no way of turning it off even in the service menu. I know this problem is not isolated to my tv because i've checked other ones in the store and they all have the same problem. Too bad I've done it after the fact of buying this piece of #$@#. If you want to see it for yourself bring your dvd and play it on one of the TVs in the store, look at peoples' faces in the movie and how bad they look. No amount of calibration will change that, trust me I've tried it all. I even spoke to certified ISF technician and he told me that there is no way he can make this TV look any better because of DNIe dynamic adjusments. So do yourself a favor and stay away from SAMSUNG TVs that have this piece of garbage called DNIe in them. Unless Samsung realizes what terrible product thay made and gives you the option to turn DNIe off. But they dont care about consumers all they care is to trick you into buying their TVs by false promises of DNIe "enhancements". Buy Panasonic or Philips instead and save yourslef the frustration, I wish I did.

"Panasonic Who? - This Samsung is SWEET!" on by gearhead79
Pros: Awesome sound from speakers, Clean HD programmig, plenty of inputs, and looks sleek on the wall.
Cons: None that I have noticed yet. Only thing that I dont like is that it only has 1 HDMI connection. But then again, most plasmas only come with one.
Summary: If your doing your research and wanting to buy a 50" plasma. Stop here. I looked for about 2 weeks and found the panasonic 500u to be the model I wanted. Then after finding out that it was not available anywhere, I decided to do some more research and finding something in the same price range with the same features. This is what I ran into. With over 60k in lamp life, this TV will last you forever....
thats an average of 6 hours a day for 27 years. -

Cons: none to my knowledge
Summary: Let me say that this Plasma has got to be the best. I was gonna get a regular tube but then i heard about Plasmas and i was sold. This samsung is the Mercedes of Plasmas and i would reccomend this to everyone. Easy to use and navigate and the sound is unbelivable.
