"Best large LCD HDTV I have seen"
Pros: Nice styling, great features, great HDTV picture
Cons: Pictures suffers when using non-HD sources, expensive
Summary: I compared this to 42" plasmas and in a side by side comparison there is an obvious difference. This makes plasma screens seem grainy, even in HD. It took a little tweaking of the picture settings to get it where I liked it, but once adjusted it looks great! I have digital cable but not HDTV, and on most channels the picture is very good. When hooked up to the DVD player the picture is amazing. It was more expensive than a 42" plasma, but the plasma wouldn't have fit in my cabinet anyway, while this does. The styling is much better looking than the Samsung LN-R408D, although I don't think that it's worth the difference in price based on picture and features. I just never liked that "V" at the bottom of the "8" series LCDs. It was still less than the 40" Sony and has a better picture in my opinion.

Do you know if there is any substantive difference between the 409 and 408? I heard the only difference was the cosmetics. Is that right? Do you think the 409 is worth the extra 350 bucks?

Do you know if there is any performance difference between the 409d and the predecessor 408? I heard it's just cosmetic to remove the V and the guts are the same. Thoughts?

So you would recommend the Samsung LN-R409D over Sony's KDL-V40XBR1? How bad were the image quality using an analog signal? Would the Sony one worked better with analog cable?
