Great TV. Has been good to me all these yearsby mave87 - November 30, 2010
Pros: Lots of inputs to hook up multiple devises and great picture quality. Produces a great sound with no rattles. Volume will turn up very high and not sacrifice quality of sound (im deaf in one ear and need to listen to the tv fairly loud)
Cons: cant complain except for LCDs have inproved so much over the years and I wouldn't mind upgrading, but this tv will still find a place in my home till it gives out.
Review: I have had this tv for for 5 years and have never had a problem. It has survived 4 relocations , one being 3000 miles away, and has proved to be a very durable, well built product. Even know TVs have come a long way since I bought this in 2006, It still has a great picture quality and continues to work day after day with no issues. I know I have logged way more hours than the "expected life" and the picture looks the same as the day I took it out of the box. Can't say enough good things about this tv. Highly recommend to someone with a budget that wants a tv that will look good and last.

At first great now it's nothing but problemsby cjmitt02 - April 22, 2009
Pros: I like the look of the TV, the picture is great.
Cons: The speakers have always been squeaky at times even if you have the volume turned down. Now the TV is having trouble turning on. I haven't found out what is causing this yet. I have only had the TV for 2 and a half years. Disappointing!!
Review: I don't know a lot about TV's, but I did my research on this purchase. While researching I was not set on this TV I was researching all of them I wanted the best TV for the dollar. I also wanted a TV that would last a long time. 2 and a half years is not a long time to me! Especially when I dropped almost two grand on it! If anybody else reads this and is having the same problem or someone who know a lot about TV's, could you tell me what is going on. I don't have money to purchase a new TV. I would like to fix it but I have no clue what is wrong with it!! I would not recommend this brand to anyone have having this experience!

Great Picture Even From Broadcastby waltk13 - October 13, 2007
Pros: Wonderfully clear picture even from only a broadcast signal.
Cons: Remote - narrow sensor range
Review: I bought this TV about in February and have been extremely pleased. The picture is absolutely terrific and being a semi-ludite (ie: cheap) I have neither cable nor satellite. I had a new HD capable antenna, with rotor, mounted last fall when my house was re-roofed and I live in a major market, less than 10 miles from the transmission towers. So, just from the HD broadcast signal I have an incredible picture with this set's integrated ATSC tuner. In fact I gained 8 to 10 new stations that I never had before because of the multiple signals a station can broadcast by use of the digital spectrum. I had checked CNET, PriceScan, Price Grabber and a couple of other sites for revues by both pros and purchasers and had taken a trip to Best Buy to view the picture before I settled on this Samsung model. I wound up buying it from Amazon, at that time there was only one seller I found in my research with a price better, but that seller had a lousy BBB rating and scary customer reviews. I saved well over $400 (not counting taxes) by buying online, from what I would have paid at a big box outlet. If I have any complaint it's that the remote has a very narrow path, you have to be pointing the remote pretty close to dead on to the set's sensor when you use it. This is my first new,non small screen kitchen, set in 20 years and I couldn't be more pleased.

Exactly what I expected after reading reviewsby tcbengals - March 25, 2007
Pros: Picture, menu settings, looks
Cons: Remote, 1 Component Input
Review: I bought this online from etronics.com for $1,069 with free shipping and no tax in early March 2007. I ordered it Saturday night and received the TV on the next Thursday, I couldn't have expected it any quicker if I had PAID for shipping.
This is my first HDTV, and went with Samsung after 3 months+ of research, and I am happy with my choice.
Pros: speakers seem fine to me despite some negative reviews, I may even get rid of my surround sound from my speaker system and move that to the basement TV instead. Easy to setup, picture is crisp, like I said, everything I expected, so I am happy. Good in a brightly light room
Cons: 1=remote is weak, not just the remote, but the TV sensor, even using another universal remote you have to click a couple of times, this has been mentioned in other reviews as well, not a show stopper by any means. 2=On-Off is extremely slow 3=I read about fast moving sports action having a ghosting effect in LCD's, and this is no exception on the 4041d model, as I have noticed pixel or trailing ghosting as I have watched College BB March Madness. I may not have noticed if I was not aware to look for it. It does happen, but again, I was aware and not a show stopper, just dont get too hung up on it. 4=only one component input, which is too bad for me since my Comcast HD service box does NOT have an HDMI output that I was told they do, so I have to use the old RCA input into the TV from my DVD player since that does not have an HDMI output on it, the next DVD play I buy will.........
If you do the research, and some online shopping, I think you will be happy with this model, I didnt see a need to pay extra for 1080i for a 40" TV......

Great LCD TVby jmar198 - March 21, 2007
Pros: Amazing overall picture in HD and standard definition and yes that start up noise rock!!!!!
Cons: Setup menu is a bit annoying, a little graining on darker images.
Review: First LCD TV and I defiantly made the right decision. First off I have my Xbox 360 hooked up through the component input, my jaw dropped when I put in Gears of War and so how much detail I had been missing when I played on my old 32inch Sony. The optical out is GREAT. I have it hooked to my Yamaha receiver sounds amazing. Even if you don't have an A/V receiver the built in speakers sound very good on there own. Next I have my DirectTV HDDVR connected through the HDMI all the HD channels look amazing and with minimal tweaking the standard look great too. I haven't picked up and DVD player with an HDMI yet but I've watched DVDs using the Xbox 360 and they've looked great, can't wait to see what and HDMI DVD player can do. The 2 real cons I've found is that the control menu can be a bit annoying it's not real reactive and if you don't keep messing with the picture control setting the main menu comes back up rather quickly and covers the screen making it hard to gauge picture quality. The other con, is I've notice with darker images it can be a little grainy. It only been on one or two TV show I watched in HD and did not appear on the DVD I watched so it may be the network on satellite companies issue and not the TVs.

Nice TV, great picture, good in SD, speakers vibrate at timesby duffyb - January 23, 2007
Pros: Great picture, even SD is good
Cons: Speakers vibrate (at times)
Review: I got the 40" Samsung after I returned the 32" model (3241) which died after a week. Im glad I got the bigger TV but the speakers tend to make the plastic outer casing vibrate at times at the right frequency. I drives me nuts at times and I'm not sure yet if I can live with it-I may return it. For $1500, it's a good deal, just not sure if it's a good enough deal to have to listen to the annoying vibrating sound forever. If I return it I'm sure it will be for something even more expensive and I'm sure there will be something I won't like about that one either.
Someone here mentioned as a 'Con' that you need a cable box or an HD DVD to view HD. Ah, duh! Actually, you don't. This TV has a built in tuner ('HD Built in', not 'HD Ready') so I'm getting several stations in my area with just a pair of rabbit ears dangling out of sight in the back. Works better than the powered antenna I bought (and returned) for $30. The signals you get with an old fashioned antenna as often times better than the HD Cable channels as they are uncompressed. The sound is way better also.

Great picture; great buy.by dante116 - January 2, 2007
Pros: solid pic, crisp detail, great color, good sound
Cons: connections allow little room between wall and set
Review: I shopped around quite a bit before deciding on this set. I compared features and items such as contrast ratio and brightness. Our livingroom is quite bright with many tall windows, so we needed good contrast and brightness, and this delivers. It has two HDMI inputs. We use one for a DVR/DVD and one for HD satellite. I read one reviewer who complained, but my remote works great at any angle, and the colors and blacks are superior to other LCDs in this range and size, like the Sony Bravia, LG, Hitachi and Philips. I had seen sets where the blacks and grays did not blend smoothly, and it was irritatingly noticeable. Not so with the Samsung. We also have a small computer hooked up to it and browse the Web in fullscreen. It's stunning. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Terrific LCDby bayguy13 - December 22, 2006
Pros: Terrific picture, DVDs look wonderful
Cons: Remote can be clunky, setup of inputs can be awkward
Review: Picked up on sale at Bestbuy. This is my first LCD TV. I use the HDMI input from my DVD player and DVDs look incredible on this 40" screen. Even regular TV channels don't look that bad. The remote can be clunky, especially since the infrared beam seems to have a very narro range. I use a preset on my AV receiver remote to control the TV and the TV remote only when I have to make any adjustments to the set. The setup of the video inputs is rather awkward. Otherwise, the picture is well worth it.

Poor performance at the price range.by fooldog01 - December 12, 2006
Pros: 40" screen, decent looks
Cons: Terrible black depth and detail, washed out colors, unfixable by any number of settings. Remote only works at perfect angle, lack of usable aspect ratio settings.
Review: I must respectfully disagree with the previous reviews. The pros and cons of my review sum up the TV. It isn't terrible but if $1500 is a lot of money to you, then this TV is a ripoff. The Philips 37" LCD w/ Ambilight outperforms this LCD in every regard and is cheaper. Granted you will give up 3" in screen size but it is completely worth it. With that said, LCD's will always fall short in a number of categories unless you are willing to shell out $2000+ for even a marginally sized screen from a companies high end model (Sharp Aquos, Sony's XBRs). If you aren't a videophile, this TV might be a 7... tops.

WOW!!! i am blown away!by dondada73 - December 11, 2006
Pros: beautiful picture and sound, easy setup, value
Cons: remote is kinds rudimentary, but i don't use it anyway, maybe another set of component inputs
Review: i just got this TV on saturday and had it out of the box and running in 10 minutes. this is my 2nd LCD and now my favorite. I also own a Sharp Aquos LC32D4U and although that is an excellent TV, the HD picture didn't totally wow me back when i first got it. This one did. I don't know maybe because it's larger, but when i went to watch Discovery HD Theater yesterday i was floored. I'm glad it has 2 HDMI inputs too as i see a PS3 in the future. The other thing i noticed was the PQ from my Samsund HD950 DVD player was better on this TV than on my Sharp. I am still not a fan of that DVD player, but it's a little better on this TV. The best part about the is TV is i found it for under $1200 from a major retailer so shop around because this was an excellent value
Updated
Shopping for my 2nd LCD, i had narrwoed my choiced down to (another) Sharp, or a Samsung. Initially i was looking a the new 1080p Sharp 42" set, but ended up choosing this one instead and am quite happy with my choice. First off, set up was a breeze. Out of the box, all components connected and watching TV in 10 minutes. This set handles HD broadcasts beautifully, moreso than my LC32D4U. The colors are truer from this set and it also handles audio quite well. Of course watching SD broadcasts really depends more on your cable or satellite provider, but i'd say this set produces a relatively decent picture on SD channels as well. I won't even get into how nice the picture looks from teh HD-DVD player. I basically fell backwards in my chair! Great price on this TV too...

Best startup noise ever!by themagain - August 9, 2006
Pros: Value, multiple resolutions, great connectivity, built-in-HD, intuitive menus
Cons: Slight grain, one set of component inputs.
Review: This is my first HDTV, and it has put my stay in the technology. With a game-mode to prevent screen burning and a plethora of inputs it's great for the video game enthusiast. Although you do get minor grain on some standard channels, all DVD's, digital cable channels, and HD feeds look brilliant. The comb filter really makes a difference. Only downside is the lack of multiple component inputs.

EXCEPTIONAL VALUE!by professor82550 - April 10, 2006
Pros: Outstanding picture quality in both HD and SD; 2 HDMI inputs; extremely easy to set-up and fine tune; excellent black levels; better than the 40 Sony XBR1
Cons: None so far.
Review: I bought this set sight unseen, but only after looking at the 32 inch version. I also bought it online. I have to say that I am gald I did to both issues. This set is terrific. My wife loves it. 'Nuff said!?!
I bought it from ProfeelVideo.com. They were terrific. I ordered it Monday morning by phone with Sharon. It was delivered by Fedex Friday afternoon. No problems, no high pressure sales, no long waits. 'Nuff said.

Great Detail, Sharp, Crispby kdc300z - March 13, 2006
Pros: Design, No more Chevron Design, Bright, Sharp Picture
Cons: No Color management, Contrast as usual with LCD's
Review: I was pretty excited to see this one come out of the box. As more and more LCD's come down in price, the more they'll soon take over the market from Plasmas. I work for a Major Electronics store in the Bay Area. This TV has a great look, similar to the Sony 55A20 in design. Not surprising since Samsung is business partners with Sony. Right off the bat, the picture quality is superb. Very sharp, very crisp, and not a hint of Blue in the White. processing is great. Very little artifacts, even when viewing a dvd (upconversion dvd player Samsung HD-755). The remote was also redesigned. Slim, V Shaped, and nice button configuration. It isn't back lit though and we all know that can obviously help in dark rooms. As with all LCD's, blurring from response time is a worry, but this LCD is extremely smooth. When viewing a 720P football game, there wasn't any visible "tracers". Classic issue with LCD is Contrast. This TV lacks the ability to show major details in dark scenes, tending to be more of a solid black than even an artifact filled black. Good if you hate noise in the picture and bad if there is detail in the black that you are missing. You can turn the contrast up to try and compensate but you will end up just washing out the picture. That is the biggest con to this LCD. On the other hand the sharpness and the brightness are absolutely brilliant. After a few monutes of "tweaking the picture" you can make this TV sing and you'll forget all about the contrast issues with LCDs. Samsung likes to claim extremely high contrast levels, such as 3000:1 or even a crazy 10,000:1. The truth is there isn't any standard in this industry for contrast, so they can claim anything they want. In reality a Great LCD is usually around 1000:1, just like a plasma. major pros to this TV, life span, 60,0000 hours, servicable, more energy efficient, no burn in, 2 HDMI inputs, and of course a PC input and Picture in Picture which is a dying option these days.
